Speaking of 2015 and socialist music that doesn't follow old hymnals: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BqwWUNZlTOA e: Hymn 181 in Common Praise, the current CofE hymnal, is Eternal Ruler of the ceaseless round. Don't know if there's a socialist version. Guavanaut fucked around with this message at 23:01 on Dec 11, 2019 |

I've been lurking this thread for over a year now and been using it as a source of news items to bombard my friends with. Godspeed with your friday morning hangovers, UK goons, whether out of celebration or grief. Nothing but the best of wishes from the Netherlands. May tomorrow spark a wave of socialism across the world.

Just had a quick chat with a younger mate(21) of mine, my constant pushing of politics is important seems to have sunk in. Hes been in turn getting on at his friends and those at his work about the need to get out and vote to stop the torys. Still working on my dad and brother, its not easy dads a bit gammony and my brothers worked beside him for too long and has some bad opinions because of that. But i reckon i can bring them around by focusing on the NHS, as my dads getting his ears fixed next year on them and if it was gone what then if i or my brother needed something like that in future. I'll see if i can sway anyone that comes by my shop the morn, and push another couple of "i dunnos seems pointless/they all the same" to voting. Keep up the good fight everyone!

Gents what's the comeback on corporation tax stuff? Tory Brexit will do more damage, it was that high under Major and Blair and things were fine or is there anything deeper?

Zalakwe posted:Gents what's the comeback on corporation tax stuff? Corporation tax is literally tax on profits, if companies aren't making profits they don't get hit with it, it's a tax on wildly profitable companies to ensure their profits go back into the services and societies that make them successful. It was as high as 90% once upon a time.

Put 90 hours into campaigning this election and doing another ~12 tomorrow. I've certainly never been this invested in terms of personal commitment to an election while simultaneously this in the dark about how it will go. Been doing so many hours I haven't been able to follow developments almost at all. If Labour don't at least gain seats, it'll be really difficult to take.

But then I also know full well that I should not be in charge because the reason the rhetoric works is because I'm just angry and full of spite, and that's not the kind of person you want in charge. I desperately want Corbyn to be PM but I'll feel a bit sorry for him if he makes it. Now that a lot of pollsters have released their final calls, I thought I'd compare the Tory leads to the final calls before 2017. Not that polls mean anything. Yougov 9 (7 in 2017) ICM 6 (12) Opinium 12 (7) BMG 9 (13) Panelbase 9 (8) Comres 5 (10) So 3 major pollsters think the Tories have a bigger lead than in 2017, and 3 think they have a smaller lead. The average Tory lead from these six pollsters was 9.5 in 2017. It's now 8.3.

One of your musical historians might know: Some time ago, I came across a song that was sung - I think during strikes in Ireland in the early 20th century - by both the unionists and the nationalists - because it was the only song that both sides could agree on as they marched side by side. For the life of me I can't remember what it was. As far as I can remember it was just a regular popular song of the day and surprising because it didn't have any heavy lyrics in it. Anyone got a clue? I've tried Professor Google and got nowhere fast.

A year after that we have county council and town council elections. County Council is currently mostly tory, town council is over half 'independents' who are actually tories. If the hard work that has gone on in the past few weeks bears fruit in these arena that will be fantastic even if we don't win tomorrow.
