Leftism is a movement composed entirely of pebbles in lakes.

Every vote cast will appear on Wikipedia and the like, and will be viewed thousands of times in the run-up to the next election, and existing support for a party allows people to give themselves permission to vote for that party.

Every point towards winning the popular vote lends legitimacy to Labour's platform and any attempt to form a minority government.

If you believe in Labour's values and policies, vote for them. Let everyone know that one more person wants things to get better.

American checking in, just want to clear up some confusion I've had reading exactly 6 posts over the last 1000 pages:

1) Is Corbyn really able to summon lightning to smite his foes and control electrical grids with his mind? That seems pretty electable to me. Is it unique to him or is that just sort of part of the package of being in the UK and in favor of redistributive economics

2) Has it been elaborated upon how Boris is going to make Brexit happen despite failing to do so over and over, over the course of years, all while being a huge goon who makes everybody dumber just with proximity and also he probably smells really bad and nobody likes him?

So, some of the analysis posted here of what might happen tomorrow seem to point to the likelihood of a hung parliament and a Labour minority government and, just curious what is the level of justified vs unjustified optimism there? By that I mean, the Liberal Democrats have repeatedly stated that they will not cooperate with Labour under any circumstances, even for C&S if I'm not mistaken, but the unspoken assumption on a minority Labour government is that Labour would get exactly that cooperation, instead of the Libs forming a coalition with the Tories again, isn't it? Isn't that kind of naive though?

And I haven't seen it just here, to be fair - all over in the press and Twitter the assumption seems to be that 255-260 seats or something like that for Labour, means a minority Labour government. That seems off.

Sorry if I'm putting a damper on the (relatively, compared to baseline over the past week) spirits here, but want to know if there is something I'm missing. Anyway I'm pulling for an outright majority tomorrow. Best of luck y'all :)

Wullie's reign cannae smother the flames o' equality!

quote:

As we come marching, marching in the beauty of the day,
A million darkened kitchens, a thousand mill lofts gray,
Are touched with all the radiance that a sudden sun discloses,
For the people hear us singing: "Bread and roses! Bread and roses!"

As we come marching, marching, we battle too for men,
For they are women's children, and we mother them again.
Our lives shall not be sweated from birth until life closes;
Hearts starve as well as bodies; give us bread, but give us roses!

As we come marching, marching, unnumbered women dead
Go crying through our singing their ancient cry for bread.
Small art and love and beauty their drudging spirits knew.
Yes, it is bread we fight for -- but we fight for roses, too!

As we come marching, marching, we bring the greater days.
The rising of the women means the rising of the race.
No more the drudge and idler -- ten that toil where one reposes,
But a sharing of life's glories: Bread and roses! Bread and roses!

The liberal democrats and the scottish national party do not have the option of not cooperating with labour, because if labour do not form a government we're brexiting in january, and that would obliterate both of their voting bases. Opposition to brexit is the core of both their platforms.

If labour manage to deny the tories a majority, there is a good chance they will be able to take brexit off the table one way or another with help from the other parties, and also extend the franchise to 16s and EU citizens, both of which will break Labour rather than Tory and a commitment to which is in both the SNP and lib dem manifestos. Then we have another election, then we have a likely much stronger labour government because the tories have lost their only policy and labour have ratfucked them by bringing in a whole load of new voters who support them.

I haven't taken a night off in almost three weeks now and I'm a bit worried about re-adapting to regular life.

Had a really fun conversation with a Greek lady tonight who didn't fall into any of my mental categories. She's not a remainer because she experienced first hand what the EU did to Greece. She's not a leaver because she's moved here from the EU. She has deep suspicions of transformative left parties after being burned by Syriza. She hates the class system in the UK for discriminating against her at work.

Picking through all that to find a route to voting Labour was really hard but I think I got there.
