I know people have said that the run up to the results is worse this time around compared to 2017. I don't think that's true; it's certainly more stressful, but the 2017 thread pre-election was just grinding misery, there was no example to counter the idea that the polls must be at least nearly right because they're the polls, nothing to disabuse us of the notion that most of us have had drilled into us all our politically-active lives that going to the left invites certain defeat and you have to embrace Sensible Centrism that listens to Legitimate Concerns About Immigrants to stand a chance against the Tory juggernaut. gently caress, we had a bunch of people posting the 'hope is a lie' meme immediately after the exit poll came out, because it just wasn't possible for good things to happen. This time we have genuine hope and enthusiasm and belief that things can be different. Whatever happens tonight, hold onto that and don't forget it. Better things are possible.
