Expat goon here and I really feel like we have a chance this time. The faultlines along which people used to vote (north/south, ABC1 C2DE etc) have shifted and no-one really knows what the new patterns are going to look like, but it seems unlikely that they will deliver the Tories the same kind of majority they used to take for granted.

My dad texted me to check I'm still voting for Labour and I asked for a socialist paradise, he said he'll see what he can do. I feel super lucky that my family are mainly Cool and Good. Most on both sides have been sharing pro Labour stuff or nothing at all. Helps that both grandmas were Labour mayors and involved heavily in public services, my dad and grandad involved in the NHS for many many years so it defo rubbed off (lol) on all subsequent generations. Good luck tomorrow goons, will be watching from afar and actually being able to follow the exit polls since it's going to be mid afternoon for me. Exit polls at 10pm ish?? Apraxin posted:I know people have said that the run up to the results is worse this time around compared to 2017. I don't remember there being nearly as much energy, action and activism in 2017, sure there was some but it seems much stronger and less likely to be dampened by despair. Then again I can barely remember last week so...

Will we be able to look back on today and remember it as the moment the nightmare of neoliberalism ended? That after decades of austerity and privatization that we...we survived?

All my family live there, I can only vote there, British is my only nationality, I've spent 95% of my life there and I may well live there again. Plus what happens in the UK is important for all left wing movements as many have pointed out in this thread already.

It's okay to be emotional this morning. Hell, it's good - we're emotional because we've been beaten down for almost a decade, the wellbeing of the poorest, weakest, least able has been discarded for profit, a process which has been ongoing at varying speeds for forty years. Most of us haven't been alive that long. When I was born we were already six years into the Thatcher regime. It's been a long grinding wear on the soul of each of us, and the country - the world - as a whole. We're emotional because even after all this we have hope for something better. A country that takes care of those who need it. A country that is reluctant to go to war. A country that welcomes the downtrodden and dispossed, takes them in, makes all of us stronger. Where we don't scapegoat the immigrant or the single mum or the young black man. A country that knows what it is to be kind. We've done all we can do during the campaign. All that's left is this final day. To vote and to get out others, to get the people who think their vote won't matter to the polls, to call up your mates and family and whoever else to tell them to go vote Labour. We have a world to win!

I didn't think this election was getting to me too badly, I sent Labour some money and finally joined up, was maintaining some cautious optimism through all the poll doomchat. I woke up at 4AM bricking it that I'd missed the vote and frantically googling for an exit poll before my brain caught up. Now I'm a bundle of nerves, hope and dread, excitement and panic, something that I can't desctibe but probably has some German compound word name that could describe it exactly. For only the second time in my life I'm getting to vote for something instead of just against tory cunts. And we can actually do this, we can win this and make things better for everyone. Getting all hosed up and emotional writing this Good luck everyone. Necrothatcher posted:We're gonna remember today for the rest of our lives.

Labour makes no promise of automation, space or communism and any gayness can only really be inferred from the shadow equality ministers statements but I suppose the moderate positions of Corbyn's Labour party will have to do for this election.

Boris is going to get a majority. Scotland is going to declare independence and Ireland will remain in the UK solely for the reason of being a tax shelter - they will not recognise UK passports at the border though. Wales will push the button than nukes the land beneath the country so it sinks into the sea. No one will notice this.
