Well, that aligns with the vibes I was getting. Which was, like, "normal" kinda vibes.

How can someone hold so much hate in their hearts? And what's with the line "go back to helping the poor and the working and stop wasting people's goodwill on ideological wankery."? Like trans people aren't poor or working? Like they aren't disproportionately affected by bigotry and prejudice, and by turning their fawning attention away from millionaires and lifting up our most downtrodden members, a society improves itself for everyone? Is there any difference between this argument and one that read "Labour should support the poor, they should focus their attention on the working and quit it with the ideological wankery."? It's just a different demographic to be kept down. It's so upsetting that this is the state of discourse going into 2020.

Obviously, you're only supposed to help the morally upstanding poor, and if they're gay/trans/non-white/non-christian/drug addicts/prostitutes/whatever else then they deserve to be poor because they brought it on themselves.

You joke, but one of the most imbalanced straight relationships i've personally seen, in terms of "husband has 9-5 and does occasional minor home repairs, wife does literally everything else" turned out to be that way cause the lady had what i guess amounted to a patriarchy fetish?

He had tried to help with dishes, laundry, etc early in the relationship and she would get upset, and eventually broke down and told him she saw dudes doing housework as gross and unmanly. It wasnt a total surprise to me since i'd known her a while before they met, and she had a FetLife acct that was all "50's Housewife" (everything about it), etc.

They've been married a decade, have a kid, and she is still like clearly wild over him, so i guess it worked out???

For a lot of (terrible) people, there's The Poor/The Working Class, and then there's Minorities, and these are two totally seperate things, and if you care about Minorities (or you care about the wrong minority) then you de facto don't care about The Poor, and if you're trying to raise Minority issues it's automatically "idpol" even if you're raising the point that class and poverty disproportionately affect minorities and examining why that is.

The fun thing is that this play crops up over and over again on every point on the political spectrum, whether it's a right-wing Respectable Poor narrative, a liberal Deserving Poor narrative, or a left-wing Class "Solidarity" narrative; the common factor is creating a false dichotomy between tackling gender, sexuality, race based oppression and class/wealth oppression. Well, ok, the ACTUAL common factor is being a bigot and looking for a respectable excuse for your bigotry, but it's great how the same hate gets different window dressing.

I was talking about this with my converted republican->dem chief of the ambulance agency yesterday. He was talking about an employee at the vet clinic his family owns who refused to work more than 22 hours a week or she would lose benefits, when ten years ago him and his wife were working 3 jobs/2 jobs respectively. He turned around a fair bit when my medic and I explained that with an actual sane economy, she'd be able to support herself on one job. It's not like she is living it up on 22 hours a week and welfare. That's not a way anyone would want to live, and she had to maximize the money coming in for her family.

Seriously. It pisses me off when people on welfare are accused of "gaming the system". If they need to game the system to get welfare maybe it's because they really loving need the welfare

I’ve known some people who apprently think being on welfare is living the high life in big homes and the finest foods. These same people usually also think a person comes here illegally and SOMEHOW there’s a government building they all go to where they’re just given a bagful of cash and keys to a house because the government wants to exclusively help them and ignores the American citizens outside pleading for help. Although why these same poor citizens aren’t given the lavish welfare lifestyle is a mystery.

In conclusion guillotine the rich guillotine the poor and guillotine everyone who reads this sentence.

Recently someone I know with mobility issues lost their disability benefits because they went for the fit to work evaluation they're required to go to to continue receiving benefits, and the lift was out of order so they had to struggle up four flights of stairs to get to the evaluation office...and were then told that the fact they'd painfully forced themselves up four flights of stairs - because they had to because otherwise they'd lose their benefits - was proof that they were fit to work and therefore shouldn't receive benefits, so now they have no source of income at all.

But yeah, it's the poors who are gaming the system apparently.

I mean my partner and I have very different definitions of what is “work” around the house. She legit loves tidying and lighter housework so it’s never work. But she hates laundry and it’s a chore for her so I always do that. People are different and I’m not going to judge them as long as what they are doing is by choice.

The actual joke here is that Baroness Warsi was literally the Chairman of the Tory Party for a few years and stayed as a Senior Minister For Us Not Looking Like Racist Bastards for some time after that. She eventually grew a spine and quit over their Israel-Palestine policy but remains a life Peer. She's still a professional terrible-opinions-haver but at least one with enough balls to call out her own party on Islamophobia.

Hopkins is not a registered Tory as far as I'm aware and certainly has no official connection to the party apart from sharing their basic lizard DNA - she was pegging her hat on UKIP for a bit but even Farage could recognise she was electoral death on legs. She now posts about her vagina capacity on twitter.

Americans are still so naive to all this. AOC was supposed to met up with Corbyn until some random person tweeted at her that he was an anti-semite and she cancelled the meeting in response.

Ilhan Omar took the full brunt of Corbyn levels of bullshit when even establishment Democrats came out of the woodwork's to attack her almost like she was a test case.

Sanders will probably get the full treatment from Republicans and Neolib Democrats alike just like Corbyn was. Neolib Democrats would rather have 4 more years of Trump if it means the leftwing of the party is broken on the walls of Fort Trump in an election.
