It wasn't really a giant deal, I just had been enjoying the story up to that point and didn't want the good story I was reading to be afflicted with the same super horny internet posting that exists everywhere else. It didn't, so it wasn't a big deal.

Pirateaba really likes playing games with formatting in these Foliana scenes. If you can’t find the secrets in this one that are mentioned in the comment at the end, the sentences when she eats the biscuits are both a link to another scene.

Royal Road's readership continue to disappoint. I spotted a story on trending 'The Nothing Mage' that seems pretty decent, not amazing but I could see why it was doing well.

Then the authored dared to have the main character bisexual and kiss another man, immediate review nuking that has dropped it to page 33 on highest rated, from I think page 2 or 3.

I'm actually quite surprised I haven't gotten any homophobic comments or reviews of my story since I mirrored it on Royal Road. I was expecting it to be a little more trashy on there.

That's a good enough rec for me. Passable quality, made idiots like "This was written shortly after the release of chapter 24 so I do not know where the author has taken it from here, but I can say that I see the point all the people dropping the novel because of the perceived deceit by the author." mad. That's taken from the middle of a much longer review, specifically a previously-positive one that they updated to warn people of the gay. They hope the author will be able to recover from this blunder! "Any realistic logical lense does not paint the author in a kind light right now, but it will be interesting to see where it goes."

Royal Road is not a very LGBT friendly site. The majority of the transgender authors I know abandoned it and moved to Scribblehub. Their cited reasons include lack of action on many of the transphobic reviews they received, the admin staff's tolerance of people complaining about them making Nazis into villains, the staff refusing to have LGBT tags because "half of the stories on those tags are porn and this isn't a porn site", and stuff like that. In short, both the general readerbase and the admin staff suck. They cited Scribblehub as being far more friendly to them.

If you do not mind quests, then Open Sketch is running some on Sufficient Velocity set in a somewhat alternative universe early 20th century setting, in collaboration with Artificial Girl. They are really well written and definitely recommended, as well as being far enough in to be multiple novels worth of writing for each.

Castles of Steel follows the first woman to join the navy of the settings almost-Japan, she is an imperial princess and gets to experience how war and imperialism are horrible whilst being a lesbian.

https://forums.sufficientvelocity.com/threads/castles-of-steel-lesbians-good-imperialism-bad.51361/

It has not been updated for a while but the original quest in the setting is the Aircraft Design Company Quest. It started off as a vehicle for playtesting the aircraft design rules for an RPG that she was working on but turned into something rather more in depth and people driven, focusing upon a gender neutral aircraft designer in 1910 not-Japan.

https://forums.sufficientvelocity.com/threads/aircraft-design-company-matsuras-planes-are-always-fastest.48927/

The setting is pretty interesting in that they have !Japan completely bi and transexual friendly, but also not very tolerant of pure heterosexuality or pure homosexuality along with having very rigid gender roles. That is in contrast to !European society that has almost complete gender equality but no more tolerance to anything other than heterosexuality and fixed genders than real early 20th century society.

Speaking of quests, someone in the Threads of Destiny thingie recently mentioned that apparently write-ins stopped being an option in response to something involving Shenhua in the original Forge thread. I took a look, but I honestly can't figure out what happened- the only time I can remember her even being on-screen in a major capacity was after the tournament, when the entire interaction was basically "Nice job finding a minion, now I'ma go back to our province and get back to being a Kill la Kill ripoff." And that really didn't merit much of a choice or detailed discussion.

It's the choice as to what to say to Shenhua about why Ling Qi became a retainer. Beginning of tournament.

So, here is my transgender author effortpost! Unfortunately, I don't know of many if any stories from a transmaculine perspective. Those're all from a transfeminine perspective. Anyways, first I must note a few things. One, those stories tend to have a transgender main character who for some reason experience a body change to fit their gender. This is because, in essence, they are transgender wish fulfillment. Two, some of those stories don't shy away from sex and the ways transgender people relate to their own bodies. Three, they're written from the perspective of a minority that has to deal with a hostile world, and some of those stories aggressively wear their progressive politics on their sleeves. If you can deal with those things, read on.

Also please don't be goons at them. Transgender people get a lot of poo poo already. Anyways, I'm gonna feature one story from each author--a lot of them have a bunch of works.

The basic premise of Kammi Kettu is one day many people abruptly are changed along with a bunch of other phenomena like half of Seattle being replaced with strange ruins and a dragon freaking out in New York. Lives are lost in the confusion. The Emerged, those transformed by the Emergence, have to deal with a lot of prejudice and fear. Human-passing Emerged get it better than the weirder looking ones. Some of the Emerged play superhero and supervillain. Also, Neo-Nazis as villains. It follows a transgender woman who is transformed into a foxgirl and her career as a puckish rogue stealing from assholes and confounding superheroes and supervillains alike.

Songbird features a teenager who grows spikes and gets shadowy powers and stuff like that. She is the subject of a horrible misunderstanding. The early part of the story is rather dark, but after a certain point it brightens considerably. This is closely entwined with Kammi Kettu, with a number of crossover chapters featuring meetings between the main characters of the two stories, told from the perspective of that main character. Also it has some lore on why the Emergence happened.

Deviled Egg has the basic premise of the main character getting turned into a succubus type devil by the botched ritual of a wizard in the same apartment complex. It has a 4channer going to hell for his hateful ways, by the way.

Ricochet has the main character awakening her alternate superhero form (a thing in this setting) and discovering said form is a girl. Also, she adjusts to her speedster powers and ends up having tangles with authority and a supervillain with the power to steal others' powers. No relation to Kammi Kettu, by the way, it's a separate setting.

The Other World is Leaking is basically urban fantasy. I still need to read more of it.

Cuddle & Monster takes a different tack than the other stories, where the main character is the subject of an attempted animal transformation spell by an evil warlock and instead turned into a stuffed animal who starts to influence the warlock in a better direction

Birthrights I haven't read yet, but its premise seems to be main character finds his grandmother's legacy and goes exploring the world she had adventures in.

Jotnar: Mother of Monsters has the main character the subject of an attempted ritual to turn her into Loki's bride so Ragnarok, the end of the world, can start. She has her objections to that.

The Three Laws of Magic takes place in a world where magic can only directly affect a person with their consent.

I recommend checking out those authors' profiles for their other works. Scribblehub also has a transgender tag, unlike a certain site whose initials is RR.

I also have a story posted (I'm transgender myself), but it's only two chapters so far. I've been working on the third chapter. When I have more posted, I'll link it.

I was kinda 50/25/25 on whether it was a typo, euphemism for 'flesh-colored pajamas' I wasn't familiar with, or subtle nod to the increasingly slippery slope that good thaumaturgists inevitably traverse. Really any of them works. ^^

Did "He Who Fights With Monsters" get backlash when it revealed both Gary and Rufus are gay? (Well, I think Gary is bi but whatever.) Or is it just a thing where the MC isn't allowed to be anything but a straight dude?

Gay side characters get a couple of snarky comments but it's such an incredibly minor detail that I actually forgot they were gay, so I imagine most of the commenters did too. The most common reason I see is that a lot of people view stories as a sort of self-insert thing and just absolutely cannot comprehend the unfathomable eldritch depths of the mind of a gay man (nevermind that most of these characters do not resemble or behave anything like any of the commenters, however much they might wish), so gay MCs seem to be the one people throw tantrums over.

I did try writing a series on Royal Road that had a straight female protagonist and nobody seemed to have a problem with it and it seemed to be taking off fairly well before I dropped it due to it being loving terrible. I think it is 'just' none straight male main characters who are an 'issue'.

Well, maybe female characters are required to be young and attractive? I started writing a second thing with a middle aged female protagonist and despite being far better in my opinion it got literally zero interest compared to my blithering rubbish with a teenaged protagonist.
