By overwhelming consensus, it's time for Percy to help some robots! As a member of the prewar U.S. Army, he is welcomed aboard.

The ship comes under attack by some scavengers, but they're no match for Percy's long range killing ability - or the ship's cannons.

The scavvers' Molotovs ignite one of the robot sailors, but otherwise the USS Constitution defends itself with ease.

Captain Ironsides wants Percy to roam all over the Commonwealth to find replacement parts for his ship - but instead, Percy uses his big brain to improvise a variety of repairs.

The bosun, a dilapidated Mr. Gutsy, is delighted at Percy's repair skills. But the captain needs a guidance chip that has been stolen by the scavvers.

Their leader apologizes for the attack on the ship while Percy was aboard. She explains that a prewar military vessel must have a fortune in scrap aboard, and the scavengers only want to kill the robots to make money without anyone getting hurt.

Despite her argument, Percy is siding with Captain Ironsides.

They still allow him to waltz into their camp, where the guidance chip is sitting in an unlocked filing cabinet.

Percy steals the chip and then runs away at 20% faster than a normal person.

The enraged scavengers follow him to the ship and launch an assault in a bid to recover the stolen chip, but they are repelled once again by the fine sailors of the Constitution. In his enthusiasm to fight back, Dogmeat runs off the side of the ship and then runs all the way back to Santuary. (The AI doesn't seem to recognize that the edge of the ship is a cliff, so NPCs fall off the Constitution constantly - and then Dogmeat was far enough away that it triggered his "go home" behaviour.)

Now Percy is able to install the navigation chip and repair the vessel's radar. The final part he needs is a turbopump, which can only be found in one installation on the other side of the Commonwealth.

Cabot House is on the way to the destination, so Percy returns the mysterious serum there to collect his pay. He learns that Jack's younger sister, Emogene, is missing.

A quick detour to Goodneighbor gives a solid lead on Emogene's location, then Percy goes back to seeking a turbopump for the Constitution's engines.

Travelling along known roads through Boston, he travels a good distance without encountering any real threats.

Level 15 perk: +1 Strength (Now 4)

He finds a pile of raider corpses with a strange calling card from a man named Pickman. Percy certainly approves of killing raiders, perhaps this man would be interesting to meet.

While fleeing a fight between Super Mutants, Gunners, and Stingwings, Percy runs into a deathclaw. He could probably take Jet and kill the monster easily, but instead he uses his running speed in sheer panic to get away from everything. His extra sprinting speed and endurance make Percy very good at escaping danger.

Finally, Percy arrives at Fort Hagen, the place Ironsides told him to find a turbopump.

The building turns out to be infested with strange metallic men! These must be the Synths that everyone speaks about in hushed tones, without their humanlike skin.

The Synths are no match for an automatic rifle, and Percy recovers the turbopump in the back room of the facility.

On the way back to the ship, Percy sees a Super Mutant Suicider approaching him! A hit of Jet allows him to bullseye the bomb and set off a nuclear explosion, wiping out the mutants.

He finds a man holding his clone at gunpoint, with each one saying that the other is a Synth infiltrator sent to replace him. As Percy lacks any diplomatic skills, he tells the man with the gun that he might as well shoot the other Art - this reveals that the dead one was a Synth all along, so Percy can trust the real Art.

Finally, Percy is back to the ship and replaces the damaged turbopump.

Captain Ironsides proudly proclaims that soon, the ship will land in the ocean and take her rightful place as defender of the Atlantic. He calculates a mere 14% chance of the entire ship blowing up when the engines are turned on.

The many resources on board the ship have attracted one of the largest armies in the Commonwealth, a hoard of scavengers dedicated to killing the Constitution's crew and anyone helping them. Their number includes three Legendary fighters.

But with Jet and his trusty Overseer's Guardian, Percy is able to kill everyone in sight of his scope before the first body finishes falling to the ground.

Level 16 perk: Chemist 2 (Level 16, 7 Intelligence)
Now Jet will last for 30 seconds, and Psycho will last for 15 minutes of real time.

The scavengers kill multiple robot sailors and even storm the ship. They begin climbing onto the upper deck but Percy is able to shoot them all.

Human casualties are piled all over and around the frigate. Just as the ship's valuable contents attracted many scavengers, their goods would be worth hundreds of caps if only Percy had time to haul them back and forth to a market.

The Captain rewards Percy with the Broadsider, a hilariously impractical handheld cannon. Percy tosses it over the side to retrieve later.

Percy must leave the ship to power up the generator that starts her engines.

With all of the USS Constitution's systems in top shape, the proud ship gracefully sails off into the night sky.

... and directly into another, taller building. The Captain proclaims an absolute success - they are a quarter fathom closer to the Atlantic, and at this rate they will reach the ocean in a mere 100 years!

This LP is going on hiatus again until after Christmas. Percy will return to Sanctuary to retrieve his dog, then what should he do after that? Found more settlements, find the missing Emogene Cabot, look for Pickman, or seek the bright heart?

Percy is back, and he's going to help some settlements! After selling off his loot from the USS Constitution, he heads off to kill some raiders in a subway station.

Jet makes fights easy, even against Raider Power Armor.

Level 17 perk: Lone Wanderer 2 (Level 17, 3 Charisma)
The second level of this fantastic perk lets Percy take 30% less damage from incoming attacks (his armour protects him even better because of this), and carry 100 pounds more than usual.

Even this Legendary Raider is no match for a fat dude on a Jet high.

She dropped this fantastic backup weapon, a kneecapping automatic pistol. If Percy ever can't kill something with a magazine from the Overseer's Guardian while high on Jet, he can whip out this gun to cripple its legs and then retreat.

The subway station is full of explosive traps, so Percy moves carefully, but he also finds plenty of Jet to supply his habit.

These raiders are tough, but mostly using pipe weapons, so they're easy enough to defeat.

Even their leader, Cinder, has a lot of hit points but can't deal much damage. Maybe he's named for the firepit he's been using to cook Jet.

Level 18 perk: Medic 2 (Level 18, 2 Intelligence)
60% healing from every Stimpak, over the course of 30 seconds.

This door was chained shut with a STOP sign and grenade trap in front of it, so of course Percy had to see what's behind it. Lots of trapped feral ghouls. He shoots them and moves on.

The settlers at Country Crossing reward Percy by joining the Minutemen. Their settlement has lots of crops and a water pump, but they sleep in filthy mattresses on the floor and have no defences. He overhears them talking about a girl at the Abernathy Farm shot dead by raiders.

Percy sets off across unknown lands to reach another settlement that needs his help. This Legendary Radscorpion was ironically carrying a piece of leather armour that improves the wearer's resistance to poison.

The fortified settlement of Covenant asks Percy some questions before he may enter.

They ask him questions about baseball, comic book collecting, and medicine, three of Percy's favourite interests. Some guy inside wants help finding a missing caravan trader, but Percy just uses the town as a place to sleep before moving on.

He kills a large number of glowing mole rats, but sadly can't save the settler they were attacking.

Level 19 perk: Robotics Expert 2 (Level 19)
This perk lets Percy command a hacked robot to attack his enemies, and grants a 40% damage bonus against robots and Synths. (The third level of the perk removes this bonus for some reason, making it easily the worst perk in the entire game)

Tenpines Bluff needs Percy to kill all the raiders at a stronghold in the nearby town of Lexington.

These raiders are largely at level 1 because this is near the beginning area of the game, so this entire fight was trivial. Percy is almost impervious to their bullets, and they all die in one or at most two shots.

He does find a collectible bobblehead.

And a rare issue of Grognak the Barbarian!

And a copy of this literally post-apocalyptic comic.

Tenpines Bluff, like County Crossing, is a small farm with a shack and a couple of mattresses on the floor, but it's livable.

Just outside the settlement, a trader tries to sell Percy a brahmin for the farm.

Her sales pitch is interrupted by the attack of a legendary dog, and its pack kills the brahmin. Oh, well.

Level 20 perk: Lifegiver 3 (Level 20, 3 Endurance)
Another +20 health, with the bonus of constant slow healing outside of combat.

The flooded quarry has been completely drained, and it's become an enormous raider encampment. Percy makes his way down the rickety stairs on the edge of a cliff, killing raiders as he goes.

One raider hiding in a shack catches Percy by surprise. She shoves an automatic pistol up his rear end and holds down the trigger, sending Percy into Nerd Rage. He kills her and pops Jet, Psycho, and two stimpaks while taking cover in the shack. No other raiders are nearby, so he heals up and keeps fighting.

There are so many raiders here - at least 20. They must have been planning an epic attack on all the nearby peaceful settlements.

The man who hired Percy to help drain the quarry is the leader of this raider gang.

He dies at long range.

Percy finds a tattooing magazines with instructions to get an anchor tattooed on his forehead!

He goes to Sanctuary to tell Garvey the good news about new settlements. Sanctuary actually has everything a settlement needs with good beds and defences, because Sturges told Percy to do it. Everyone in the Commonwealth has no clue how to build with scrap.

Level 21 perk: Commando 3 (Level 21, 2 Agility)
This brings the bonus damage for automatic weapons up to 60% and slightly improves unscoped accuracy again.

Percy finds Abernathy Farm and gives Mary's father the locket he found after killing Ack-Ack several days ago. The grateful Abernathys join the Minutemen.

Abernathy Farm has a large house built into the base of an old transmission tower. It still lacks any real defences, though.

Finally, Percy returns to the Red Rocket station and is reunited with beloved Dogmeat. Time to hit the road.

Should Percy get a face tattoo or no?

Is the next quest finding Emogene Cabot, the raider-killing Pickman, or the Bright Heart from Mama Murphy's visions?

Percy is off to Diamond City! This is the one-person settlement at Starlight Drive-in. It has no food and the only water is full of radioactive waste, but at least it has a bed to sleep in!

Along the way he finally deals with the raiders who ambush travellers on this bridge, and blasts their Power Armor-wearing leader.

He collects another post-war magazine, this one a copy of the Wasteland Survival Guide.

In Diamond City, Percy breaks the bad news to Darcy of her husband's death but doesn't mention that it was he who shot Paul in the face.

This seems to be a fine place for a face tattoo, I've seen real tattoo parlours that were less sterile than this.

Percy gets the anchor tattoo on his forehead. After all, he does have some recent experience with ships!

I forgot to account for the hat completely covering this tattoo. It's not possible to choose the location of a particular tattoo.

On the way to find Pickman's Gallery, Percy stops for a test of his martial prowess by loading up on Psycho and Jet to confront the rumoured monster at Swan's Pond.

It's a gigantic Super Mutant! Thanks to his extremely chem-enhanced reflexes, Percy kills the Behemoth before it can even finish standing up.

While in the area, Percy visits the USS Constitution on its new perch high above the ruins of Boston. He also picks up a distress signal from Rex Goodman, a victim of Super Mutant kidnapping.

Captain Ironsides is optimistic that the frigate will reach the ocean in one or two more launches, and grants Percy a promotion. How many people have been a general and a lieutenant in different branches of the armed forces?!

There are multiple raiders outside Pickman's Gallery besieging the place.

Level 22 perk: Strength +1 (Now 5)

Inside, Percy hears them talking about Pickman's love of torturing raiders.

Percy doesn't torture, he simply shoots raiders. He has lots of opportunities to do that in here.

Pickman has been making gruesome art out of the blood and bodies of all the raiders he's tortured.

Percy fights his way through the art gallery, killing about a dozen raiders along the way.

Finally, he sees the defenceless Pickman being confronted by a raider leader.

Percy leaps into battle, killing the remaining raiders with ease. Pickman is unarmed but extremely tough, and being set on fire doesn't phase him.

The torturer thanks Percy and gives him a key, telling him to gaze deeply at one of the blood paintings.

The area also contains some cool collectibles!

This issue of Astoundingly Awesome Tales is quite useful against the Commonwealth's rare poisonous creatures, because so few armour pieces can grant any poison resistance at all. The marginal impact of going from 0 to 5 poison resistance is huge. For instance, a Bloodbug's poison damage would be reduced from 42 to 27.5.

Should Percy let Pickman live or kill him?

Should he find Emogene Cabot, follow the bright heart, or rescue Rex Goodman?

It would be hypocritical to kill Pickman - according to the Pipboy, Percy has killed over 200 raiders. Where the hell do they all come from?

Behind one of the paintings he finds Pickman's Blade, one of the best melee weapons in the game - if only melee were viable.

Percy shoots some raiders in the vicinity of Goodneighbor, since he needs all the killing practice he can get.

Level 23 perk: Strength +1 (Now 6)

Rescuing Rex from Trinity Tower violates the "don't gently caress with Super Mutants" rule that has kept Percy alive so far, but since the quest is near Diamond City it can't be that dangerous.

Thanks to Jet and Psycho, he can easily slaughter three Super Mutants in less than three seconds.

Trinity Tower stands out as one of the highest buildings in the Commonwealth.

It's full of Super Mutants, but most of them are ordinary ones with only a few Brutes and Skirmishers around.

The leader taunts Percy as he slaughters a path through the tower.

Super Mutants love hunting rifles and sledgehammers, which are good weapons against well-armoured characters like Percy. But they die so quickly to his Overseer's Guardian that it hardly matters.

Fist is armed with a minigun, but he dies before he can fire a shot.

Percy succeeds and unlocks the cage holding Rex Goodman and a friendly Super Mutant named Strong.

Rex explains that he was trying to civilize the greenies by teaching them Shakespeare. It kinda worked on Strong, who believes the "milk of human kindness" is the secret to human power and wants to work with Rex to find it.

The three of them ride a slow elevator down the side of the skyscraper, while Rex quotes Shakespeare to calm himself and Percy blasts every mutant in view.

This rescue makes Strong a possible companion, but Percy only travels with his dog. With that, everyone parts ways and Percy is on to his next quest.

He could follow Mama Murphy's vision, or go back to mercenary work for Edward, or follow Pickman's example and murder every raider he can find.

Back in Diamond City, Percy gets some sleep before searching for the bright heart.

He finds it in one of the shanty alleyways - a detective agency! Surely our drug-addled hero can find something interesting here. Following Mama Murphy's visions seems like a good path to take, after all.

Percy sees a sad secretary poring over old files nostalgically. She explains that the detective has gone missing while investigating the gangster Skinny Malone, so of course Percy offers to go find him.

Dogmeat manages to brush against a car and hurt himself, but a quick stimpak revives him.

Percy encounters some bare robotic Institute Synths and shoots them.

Level 24 perk: Strong Back (6 Strength)
This grants an extra 25 pounds of carrying capacity, so Percy can haul even more bullets, drugs, and purified water.

Inside the subway station, Percy confronts a mob of 1930's-style gangsters and kills them. Like low-level raiders, the Triggermen are hardly able to threaten him.

Their guns are much weaker, but use the same calibre as the automatic combat rifle, so they're an excellent source of ammunition.

Thanks to his armour and gun, Percy gets through the Vault without even needing to use chems.

Detective Valentine is a Synth! And very grateful for his rescue.

Percy finds an awesome collectible bobblehead. I wonder if these were as annoying as Funko Pops in the prewar world.

He also finds this issue of Astoundingly Awesome Tales, which boosts his lousy AP from 80 to 85.

Level 25 perk: Strong Back 2 (Level 10, 6 Strength)
Another 25 pounds of carrying capacity.

At the exit from the Vault, Skinny Malone and his violent girlfriend show up to threaten Percy and the detective.

The bigger they are, the harder they fall.

Back in Diamond City, Percy wears Malone's clothes to get better prices while selling his pile of looted weapons, and politely corrects Moe Cronin on the finer points of baseball strategy.

Nick and Ellie are reunited, and Detective Valentine explains the man he's been searching for - a dangerous institute agent named Kellogg.

The agency also contains a gaming magazine, with a demo for the classic Zeta Invaders!

Kellogg recently left the city, and his house is heavily locked up.

Percy visits the mayor, but he proves impossible to bribe.

However, his secretary is swayed by 250 caps. Percy may not have charm, but he certainly has money.

The detective team finds some of Kellogg's possessions, and Dogmeat is able to track the man from his scent!

Percy has all of the relevant perks, so he has a few choices of upgrade paths here. With three points in the Strength tree he can improve unscoped accuracy by 40%. With four points under Agility he can become immune to traps and landmines. In the Luck tree he can spend five points to deal 15% more damage. So, should he pick better aim, immunity to traps, or max killing power?

For his next quest, should Percy track Kellogg, work for Cabot some more, or go killing raiders?

Percy and Dogmeat are off to find an Institute agent!

The man left a trail of cigars and beer bottles across the Commonwealth, like a grown-up Hansel and Gretel.

Of course, he snuck past a couple deathclaws, making it difficult for most people to follow him.

Jet is a wonderful chem, and Percy kills the deathclaws easily.

He traces Kellogg's trail, killing mole rats, a yao guai, and several feral ghouls along the way.

Then Percy has to fight a Legendary Deathclaw, but his Jet and long-range weapon make short work of the monster.

Level 26 perk: Agility +1 (Now 3)
This increases Percy's maximum time sprinting and holding his breath while looking through a scope, and unlocks the Sneak perks that grant immunity to traps.

This legendary missile launcher is not especially useful - but look at that sell value.

Dogmeat is a good boy, and tracks Kellogg like a bloodhound.

It leads to Fort Hagen, which Percy has seen once before.

It is full of Synths, and Percy pops his Jets and slaughters them all.

Dogmeat was badly injured in the fight. Synths use energy weapons, which both Percy and Dogmeat resist significantly less than conventional arms.

Because Percy has been here before, this door is no longer barricaded, so he just walks straight to the elevator and heads into the basement.

As you can see from this laser tripwire, Dogmeat can't trigger traps or landmines (like all followers).

Percy lays waste to the high-level Synths in the facility, easily killing them at long range.

He finds this neat, although useless, collectible!

Then, a laser turret very nearly kills him. He only gets away by taking Jet and running into a nearby room, when one more laser shot would have been fatal.

After that near-death experience, Percy cautiously advances into Kellogg's last line of defence.

Before the man can speak, Percy notices a Legendary Synth Strider and shoots it in the head, then kills Kellogg as well in a haze of Jet.

Ooh, it's another videogame holotape! Percy also finds cybernetic parts implanted into Kellogg's brain, but they aren't nearly as exciting as this.

When he emerges from Fort Hagen, an enormous airship is flying overhead. People of the Commonwealth! Do not interfere. Our intentions are peaceful. We are the Brotherhood of Steel.

He watches a Brotherhood vertibird land near a large Super Mutant camp and immediately get slaughtered by missile launchers and a Suicider.

A safe distance from the battle, he overhears two settlers discussing one of the great philosophical debates of our times.

Percy shoots a couple Super Mutants in front of this Knight-Sergeant, but the tin can man is still a dick to him.

Back at Valentine's, Piper is plying Nick for information about the search for Kellogg. Nick returns and explains everything.

They both dislike it when Percy says he has no regrets about killing Kellogg. The dead man was one of very few people who knew how to enter the Institute. Nick suggests taking a cybernetic brain implant to Dr. Amari, who may be able to extract its memories.

What's next for Percy? Probe Kellogg's memory, meet the Brotherhood of Steel, find the missing Cabot sister, or wantonly slaughter some raiders?
