It is. It commands us to put to death usurers as they are thieves.

Jesus completed the works of the prophets and that means we all now must act to eliminate usury and all systems that promote it.

They're still good if you're looking for a midrange turntable, esp. since collectors have been driving up the prices of AT and Sony tables. You can probably still find Cenko-Denyos in decent condition at thrift stores for like $40-$60; just put a fresh cartridge in it and you're good to go!

I say it a lot but the last few trillbillies have been a blast. Tanya getting super into the judge getting it on with her secretary while at work was great, and so was Tom knowing a youth minister who the judge was also banging.

War Nerd is a different kind of amazing lately, three episodes on Venetian history that I was completely unaware of. Just not something that comes up much in American education

Venice I feel is extremely out of the way and I think that people haven't been learning about the crusades as much

I do remember the crusades being touched on in my bumfuck nowhere rural school but the role of the Byzantines and Venice is almost entirely absent in that narrative. Instead its all about the Muslim capture of the Holy Land and the subsequent wars over it and the innovations the Europeans brought back from the middle east.

The Crusades get touched on because it's something the Anglos got involved in, while all of Venice's wars with the Ottomans are some esoteric nonsense only swarthy Italians would care about. Venice barely even gets discussed when studying the Renaissance.

As a religious person, :agreed: 100%. One of the reasons I went full Commie was because at some point I couldn’t make the cognitive dissonance between my deeply-held humanitarian values and my shitlib politics anymore.

For example, see how the True Levelers AKA the Diggers pop up during the English Civil War centuries before real socialism. Also all those utopian Christian cults during the wars of religion.

Crusading is also interesting because it's a way to resolve a fundamental contradiction in the society of the time. Chivalry wants the upper class to be good Christians (Thou shall not kill) and badass warriors (Thou shall perform sick feats of arms) at the same time. Crusading resolves the contradiction by allow a knight to be a pious pilgrim and a stone-cold killer simultaneously.

It's why the upper class keeps calling themselves crusaders when they're just jerks raiding eastern Europe, killing Muslims in Iberia, or getting owned by the Ottoman empire. The ability to resolve the contradiction is so attractive.
