I guess "we have to play another match less than 24 hours later 3,000 miles away" was a satisfactory reason, especially given they already weren't playing the full first team in previous League Cup matches so "full available strength" was already interpreted to mean not starting the first-choice XI every match

The EFL trophy is good and it sucks that Swansea's u23s got kicked out because the first team were relegated. Unlike a lot of the fashionable academy teams we always made it to the knockouts. The Carebear cup is also good because it is a major trophy.

City's team vs. Oxford United: XI | Bravo, Cancelo, Garcia, Harwood-Bellis, Angeliño, Rodrigo, Zinchenko, Foden, Bernardo, Mahrez, Sterling (C) SUBS | Carson, Gundogan, Jesus, Mendy, Otamendi, Bernabe, Diounkou Sterling as center forward and captain against a League One side is definitely a thing. Nice to see some kids without going for a Full Liverpoo, and Zinchenko is finally playing in his actual position of midfield.
