to be fair you tried to get me to listen to that man's voice for over 6 minutes lol

the only thing I would change with vanilla pipe weapons (that mods thankfully do change) is the color of them and the fact that they're not even more customizable. Having maybe 3-4 times as many parts in each category, not even counting stuff like chamber swaps for different calibers, would do a lot to sell the idea they were trying to get across. I won't fault a development team for not making 60,000 gun parts for a weapon designed as an early-mid game stepping stone to stronger, actual guns tho

Fair that guys voice does suck, and also I totally respect "I don't give a poo poo about that" as an answer. I love zip guns too that's why I wish we had a few more options instead of "block of wood and superfluous bits", but something at least memorable and funny, like real zip guns.

For example here's an entire blog post about zip guns specifically made from staplers, and they vary about as much as I think you'd want them too.

https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2014/01/30/peer-reviewed-forensic-analysis-weaponized-stapler-engineering-developments/

quote:

there do appear to be increasing numbers of staplers converted into fairly advanced zip guns being confiscated worldwide. The common double action stapler is highly modular, regularly seen trivially adapted to fire .38 spl, 12 gauge shotgun shells and even 40mm grenades.

I want every single one of these in Fallout 4 so much it makes me regret not knowing how to make 3d models

edit : lol the end of this article

yeah zip guns and garage guns rule, like check these loving things out:

hitting the balance between “gun could potentially look like anything” and “recognizably a Bandit Gun” isn’t easy and while they could have handled it better by like, I dunno, have The Forged be the guys supplying these weapons to the wasteland to explain why they’re all built the same, pipe weapons are still my favorite guns that don’t shoot bowling balls.

I think it's because 5mm doesn't mean anything to people who care enough to make weapon mods.

Like, 5mm originally existed as a pseudo 5.56 round, in the old Fallout games it's used in the assault rifle, is described as a long and bottlenecked cartridge, and obviously is around 5mm in diameter. All the traits of 5.56

But then Bethesda added 5.56 ammo to the world in Fallout 3 and kept 5mm too, so I think it would be more appropriate to just convert the minigun to 5.56 and replace all 5mm in the game with 5.56. That way you get to use your minigun ammo with other weapons and also eliminate the made up, redundant ammo.

I think it's separated out so that the minigun doesn't become mindbogglingly overpowered or a hilarious waste of valuable ammo. Mind you, I think they erred a bit too much on making it weak and cheap, but I can follow the logic.

I WON A CONTEST IN TG AND ALL I GOT WAS THIS CUSTOM TITLE
I want cooler pipe guns but I also want the crafting system to be less poo poo, I ought to be able to tear down a gun into component mods to slam into a new gun instead of having to make a replacement part first. Mods should also be less gun specific, so I can slap the scope from a hunting rifle on a pipe gun or whatever.

Yeah I get balance, but also aren't those the exact qualities that describe a minigun?

That brings me to something that bugs me about Fallout 4, how absolutely common and mundane power armor/heavy weapons are. They don't feel special to me at all anymore. I'm sure it's been talked about to death but dang

Thing about pipe weaponry is that they are the first group of firearms you discover and are forced to use from the first part of the game because of the genius level and loot system. Imagine going into Fallout 4 being super pumped and then seeing vanilla raiders putting about with this combination of blandness.

Concept wise they are good and fine, mods have delivered the holy canon pipe rifle and much more comical and entertaining versions (see above),

If they were a secondary or third tier of starter guns mixed with traditional and older weapons fine but gently caress that level of laziness. After the 5th or 6th time the novelty act has worn off.

That video is like CinemaSins level “acting super smart and smug about things you don’t know about”. Apparently he doesn’t know what an internal magazine is, even though it’s the most common type of magazine used in bolt action guns. Does he play a WW2 game and think the Russians are also just sort of slamming their rounds into the barrel?

that sort of thing combined with "this bolt-stopper flange looks flimsy and lovely, on a gun designed around looking flimsy and lovely and liable to stop functioning at any point" is what caused me to tune out of the video, too. He had some valid points but it's all super nit-picky stuff like parts of the model not lining up exactly where they should be, which is a fair critique but nothing that's going to suddenly convince me that my favorite guns are now worthless and I should immediately erase their existence from my game.

Yeah, honestly I never use anything approaching a 'realistic' gun if I can help it. Games are there to let us explore stuff that can't be in reality so always give me a pew-pew laser pistol and gun made of glued together scrap over another loving 'true tactical M1 with REAL IRON SIGHTS' or whatever the gently caress real gun.

If there was a mod that removed all the weapons from the game except the energy/pipe/completely impractical melee weapons I would install it in a heartbeat

I understand the problem people have with them, even if they look like scrap and garbage glued together they should still look like they actually function as guns (also they all look the same but I'm comfortable chalking that up to development time and money being spent elsewhere, judging by the concept art in the art book), but I don't think they look too far off and it's close enough for me. I just need to change the color to something less "covered in piss" and I'm good to go.

The only gun mods I won't use are the super modern ones. Once you get into about the '70s as far as guns copied from IRL guns, I check out. It also doesn't help that they don't tend to be very well optimized, and someone just uploading their 300mb 112k poly high resolution models into a game where it's not unreasonable to have 10 of them on screen at once in a large firefight annoys the hell out of me lol

Is there a combination of mods that will flatten out the damage resistance of enemies and nullify the damage scaling on Survival? I use Enhanced Light and FX and that's it. It doesn't do anything for out side, but makes interiors look much better. Light comes from light sources only instead of every interior having some arbitrary ambient light regardless of what light sources are actually lit up. You'll use your Pip Boy flashlight more often as a result.

So a friend of mine got me Fallout 76 and while it's 'fun', it's made me want to take some of the better looking weapons there and use them in FO 4 where I can mod the gently caress out of 'em.

Nexus Mod Manager is kaputski I think, so what's the current 'easy to use' option that doesn't involve me being terrified I'm downloading the wrong thing for MO?

Also I want to find a Mauser C96 Pistol mod. I don't know why but I must fire it at things and it must load via stripper clip.

What're some of the 'must haves'? Things have changed, I'm sure. I played long ago but that was a long rear end time ago.

So, for mods you'll want as a base the the Unofficial Patch, Faster Workshop, and maybe the Achievements mod if you care about getting achievements on Steam.

Sounds like you want to mod the hell out of weapons, so I'll look into weapons first. If you don't want to worry about making a bashed patch to handle merging leveled lists you'll want to stick to one mod that adds new weapons for enemies, so the most bang for your buck if not exactly lore friendly would be Weaponsmith Extended. You'd just make sure to install the frameworks it lists and the weapons it says to download before installing it.

For stuff to recommend besides weapons, Sim Settlements. You want a better settlement system where they build on their own a bit or at least need less fiddling? Sim Settlements. You place down plots for specific kinds of buildings and settlers will build on them. Need another bed? Make a residential plot.

Start Me Up so you don't need to go through the intro again. In addition to alternate start options it also lets you skip straight to getting out of the cryo pod after character customization.

Just focusing on general stuff, if you have ideas for what you'd want to fix up specifically I can list more.

Well, I'm hesitant to use the unofficial patch 'cause it's Arthmoor. Is he going to stick oblivion gates into the commonwealth because Bethesda doesn't know canon like he does?

I grabbed a mod to increase the damage dealt to enemies in survival mode so I'm not dealing with bullet sponge enemies. I wish there were some mods that better allowed you control in Nuka World, simply because I like the idea behind it, but feel like the whole 'leader of raiders' thing was kind of a kneejerk reaction to Bethesda getting criticized about being forced into being a 'goodie'.
