Continuing adventures with middle eastern street cats! This handsome little guy was one of the skittish ones; I’ve been seeing him off and on for weeks. One year my brother and I couldn't find ours and he was replaced with a freshly carved Baby Cheesus. He got very sweaty in the Queensland heat.

We never followed the "baby Jesus only gets added on Christmas" route, though I was oddly obsessed as a child with taking Jesus out of the manger and trying to balance him in Mary or Joseph's arms. Sometimes one of the wise men got a turn. There was one Christmas where that nativity set broke in storage and my dad ended up putting the donkey head on one of the wise men. My mother's current set has the three wise men bringing their friend Buzz Lightyear to see the baby Jesus.
