Cool, an MP and party leader openly and unapologetically using racial slurs on national TV.

It's interesting that they aren't more afraid of a new war in the middle east. Aside from how wrong it is morally it would probably lead to a new refuge crisis even worse than the last one in Europe. The EU still cant agree on on how to handle refugees, and a new wave would could break the EU.

Gotta look on the bright side, at least the fivehead imbecile isn't balls deep at a DSU party when he's condoning political assassinations.

And obviously the US doesn't give a poo poo about small things like a historically huge wave of refugees, it's way over in Yurop!

Just keep making GBS threads in other parts of the world, nicely isolated from the consequences, while they piss and moan about s few thousand fleeing Hondurans.

Even if she has bad opinions on Iran she's mostly irrelevant now. She did have a point about V being unable or unvilling to deal with hedersförtyck and radicalisation among certain groups.

It's not terribly uncommon for political refugees from oppressive countries to be irrationally angry at their countries of origin (or at least the government and those associated with it, as well as associated ideas and practices), even if the origin of their anger and opposition is often understandable enough it's not uncommon for it to just become so all-enompassing that it's kind of hard to completely sympathize with for others (even though the journey there is still typically understandable).

European Council's Committee for the Prevention of Torture sharply criticised facility Ellebæk, citing conditions "worse than prison" for rejected asylum seekers. Minister of Justice Nick Hækkerup responds that it "shouldn't be a nice place" since they've been rejected. So far there's been at least seven suicide attempts and one successful.

So Migrationsverket is laying off up to 146 people. This is great for a country where it takes 8 months to get a residence permit extension and 3 years to process a citizenship application.

Question: the reason seems to be a reduced budget and a shortage of work. Regarding the latter, how is there a shortage of work? Because based on oh, everyone I’ve known who has dealt with them and my experiences, it seems kind of like the opposite.

I’m going to wager a guess that it’s due to specialized positions where there genuinely isn’t work but why are we continuing to shoot out the kneecaps of an organization that is barely standing as is?

There isn't a lack of work to be done in any meaningful sense, it's just that the term "shortage of work" (arbetsbrist) is one of the two possible formal legal reasons to lay someone off (the other one is "personal reasons", which is rarely used because it comes with an extensive burden of proof of professional misconduct on the part of the employer, as well as with a requirement that both parties have made serious good faith attempts to make things work). Legally speaking though "shortage of work" also covers what is actually a shortage of money or a corporate restructuring - basically, if your team/division/position ceases to exist for whatever reason, that's formally considered "shortage of work". If the employer starts hiring again later, laid-off employees have the right to be re-hired preferentially under certain conditions. Wiki has a decent article on Lagen om anställningsskydd ("LAS", the employment protection act) if you want more details.

Yeah this has been coming for quite a while. The big question is who will follow-up. I sincerely doubt they'd waited this long if they had a strong candidate in mind. With only 4 months until congress rallying around anyone but the ordained crown prince (or prince's) will be very difficult.

if jensen breaks out of government she's going to discredit her whole wing within the party and relegate FrP to the comedy-hour idiot brigade they were under carl i hagen at the same time as knocking over a conservative coalition which represents the party paymasters marvellously. at the same time, solberg's position becomes vulnerable and the balance of power shifts dramatically towards the centre parties in government - ropstad might even achieve his dream of carving out a reactionary culture war niche if his only rivals for that position are out of government, and keep his husk of a party alive for a couple more elections

Viktor Barth-Kron summarizes the political impact and failures of Sjöstedt.
https://www.expressen.se/kronikorer/viktor-barth-kron/jonas-sjostedt-kunde-aldrig-fanga-missnojet/

I find it interesting how V have failed to capitalize on the failures of S, where the voters have gone to SD instead.
Apparently the voters appetite for hardcore socialism democracy is rather limited in comparison to other factors.
And while 8% is not a bad number, Schyman got 12% and 8% in 1998, so there should be no higher ceiling for V.
Although I would guess V was a more working class party at that time compared to the middle class inner city party it is now.

Also, I guess it is time for V to do a hardcore socialist if they follow their normal tradition of going between pragmatic and ideological (ie Werner - Schyman - Ohly - Sjöstedt).

Danish SuccDems got around that whole issue by just revoking the childrens' citizenship for their parents' alleged crimes—I say alleged, because courts are now unnecessary—and leaving them in war zones.

Cops will also be able to enter and search people's homes and computers without a court order if they're convicted:
