Fuzz posted:Yeah but Evrart is so scummy and his VA is so smarmy that he just comes across as slimy. It's hilariously on the nose the way a Union leader is a mobster scumbag and so fat and lazy that he has his minions carry him around like a modern emperor, so all his overtures about socialism feel more like lip service and a filthy politician pulling a fast one on people than a guy who genuinely cares about anything other than himself and getting what he wants. Joyce is far more personable and relatable. He is incredibly corrupt and slimy, but he's also intentionally putting on a show to manipulate you and Joyce. He's genuinely building socialism, just not in a decorous fashion. Joyce is also acting and manipulating you, but in a different way. No matter how nice she is, she's still a bloodless capitalist who puts corporations first.

One of the more telling differences between the two personalities is that Joyce visits the fishing village and is glad that it still exists in the peaceful state it was when she was young, while Evrart can't wait to get rid of it in favor of new developments. And then it's a choice your own character has to make. In general I like the way they're written because it is essential to a critique of an all-encompassing system to show that its problems are systemic and not solvable merely by putting more well-meaning people in charge. There's a lot of fiction that's content with making the baron/priest/capitalist overtly greedy and evil but fail to address the bigger picture.

Arrhythmia posted:She doesn't put the corporation first though, in the end. she does though, because she calculates the PR fallout for gunning down strikers would be a higher cost to the company than losing one dock. however, she got played by ervart because ervart knows the success of the strike will instigate more worker takeovers across the city (theres a shivers (i think) check talking about how news of the strike's success inspires similar ones in other parts of revachol). his plan was to convince her that the cost of folding would be only one dock rather than many. he made her think that by acting like a thug and fitting in the frame of "corrupt backwater mob boss"

Stuck at the dumb Feld billboard because I failed the Shivers check. I'm already at max Physique so it's capped out and can't be increased. You can go around and do other things to increase your modifiers, but I think you can't actually retry a check unless you increase the skill itself - which obviously I can't do. Do I need to savescum?

Do I need to savescum? Checks will sometimes reset when you do other things that give you a positive modifier for them. The shivers check there, specifically, resets after every bonus you get for it, so you can retry after each sidequest in the area (iirc the dialogue will even nudge you towards it once you finish the quest)

Nice, this helps me understand his character more. I wonder whether going lib/moralist made my interactions with Joyce more prominent since I felt like Evart was too elusive to get a handle on (obviously this is intentional) and I wanted to delve more into him.
