This is the poo poo that scares me the most. People don't even believe the things they see with their own eyes. Like when he told Stephanopolous on national tv he would take foreign help in 2020. They just went, "Nope, not real. Made up. Didn't happen."
Evangelical Christianity used to be very effective at subjugating women and minorities and the poor, but has been constantly losing its efficacy over the past few decades. Trumpism is restoring their power, so evangelicals are in favor of him.

I was just talking with my wife last night about the CT editorial and how Trump couldn't help but retaliate once he hears about it. I'm not surprised that Franklin Graham has his tongue stuck to Trump's boot, as he and Falwell Jr. are no different than the religious figures who backed Hitler. What will be interesting is what impact the editorial and Trump's attack on CT will play out with CT readers. While I've no doubt that many will stick with Trump, I think there will be some people who will listen. My hope is that this leads to some measure of splintering within the Evangelical community and more infighting in the GOP.

In the debates where Trump has to openly argue with Democrats, I'd be thrilled if any one of them asked Trump something like "As such a devout Christian, I'd love for you to recite John 3:16, the most famous bible verse in the book, for our audience" and watch the audience when shockingly he'll have no loving clue about how to even begin.

wrapped up in a review of kirk cameron's "saving christmas"

they no longer like the word "christian", their faith is in christ's divinity, not his message. they aren't "christian" they are "men of faith"
prosperity gospel has really caught on because there's tons of cash to be made if you know the secret word (jesus).

He's been asked before, specifically I think he was asked what his favorite verse is. His response was he loved the whole bible, all of it, and then proceeded to word-salad.

Just trying to hold on. I've been very depressed the past few years because things just keep getting worse and people keep falling further and further down the hole. Most of the people who have been helping me are optimistic to a fault (Things will get better because they have to/Trump supporters are still good people/Things will improve because they always do). But all evidence seems to suggest that nearly half of the country is lost and irredeemable. Including my friends. I'm just trying to find some good in them that maybe things aren't as hopeless as it seems.

I've been avoiding the news fairly successfully for a while but I went to the gym last week to try and keep active I saw the news that McConnell said he would coordinate with the White House on the impeachment trial. I mean...WHAT?! And then Graham said he will find Trump innocent no matter what evidence is presented. And this is ok because...?

You know, I was afraid to post this because there might be some backlash and people would think I'm crazy but I've been thinking about this for a while. I'm actually fairly religious. I've disliked it when people try to apply Revelations to people and things they don't like ("Obama is the Antichrist because he's a socialist"), but current events scare the poo poo out of me. Yes, He's is supposed to rule for three and a half years and openly flout religious laws. He is basically the exact opposite of what a Christian should be and "fake" Christians flock to him in droves and worship him no matter what he does. Pretty much everyone left in existence tries to dissuade them, but they refuse.

Though if this is the case we are over due for scorpion monsters. Which is a drat shame because that would be sweet.

Another way of looking at it is that for basically every president in history, people have been saying "this is the worst one ever" or "this is a sign of the end times". Its probably not. I mean, only a few presidents a go we clearly had "worse" presidents (in terms of entering wars that led to the slaughter of millions). We felt the same way when GWB was there (although he probably was one of the worst presidents ever). And as much as a proud and obvious baffoon Trump is, he hasn't done nearly the same amount of damage that GWB did. Although who knows once Trump is re-elected in 2020. The impeachment has only increased his polling numbers.
