I know it's not technically a knock-off but

As usual, amazon is an option - as long as you don't mind buying from India(?) and can afford about $15-20

In a lovely discount store at the Highpoint shopping mall in Maribyrnong, Australia. They'd temporarily set up in an empty store so I have no idea how much longer they'll be there.

I love how these are all knock-offs of actual Transformers toys, because Transformers actually made official Star Wars and Marvel crossover toys years ago.

And yet they are never as good as the bootlegs:

Transformers, but with [other licensed character] inside is a relatively new, widespread KO phenomenon that I fully support because some of them are pretty nuts/great. I have the Iron Man Jetfire and Captain America Optimus Prime from this photo and they're both pretty neat. I really like the semichrome candy apple red and gold colors for Jetfire's mold, kinda wish I had the original in that style. I think they were only like 10 or 15 bucks each, too.

On the less fun side of bootlegs, a range of bootleg dolls have made the news in the UK for containing toxic chemicals

BBC News posted:

Toxic chemicals have been found in cheap dolls putting children exposed to them at risk of long-term fertility problems, officials warn.

The Sweet Fashion Doll and Girl Beautiful Doll - costing between £1 and £3 - have been supplied across the UK.

The Nottingham wholesaler is being investigated by city officials, who said it could not yet be named or the shops it supplied for Christmas.

The dolls contain high levels of phthalates, say trading standards.

The potentially harmful chemicals are used to toughen plastic in the Chinese-made dolls, said the council team.

Yep I really wish I had picked up a bunch of them, they were only like 15 bucks and they're not QUITE as good quality build wise as the original jetfire but definitely worth having as a novelty at minimum

It's too bad it's only NES level hardware because I think at least SNES/PSX level emulation in this form factor could clean up against the RG350 et al, even at $160~

But the current system makes them so much more money. Buy a Switch and then buy the online. There's also the carrot of "you'll get more games at some point" they can dangle in front of you

I’ve seen people put a Pi in a Wii U game pad, which would be the chunkier version.

I’d hate to do that unless the hardware was beyond repair though, since there’s a limited supply of those.

Yes, but the NES and SNES Classics exist despite it probably being more profitable to make downloadable Switch versions of all the games on it.

Nes classic came out before the switch, and SNES games came to the switch well after Nintendo stopped manufacturing the SNES classic. And now the games on the SNES classic are slowly coming to the Switch as part of their subscription service
