This is seen later I think.

Great episode- I like the additions/direction on the Toga/Twice stuff since that was a bit sparse in the manga.

I like how they instantly figured out it was a fake Rock Lock and didn't fall into that stupid trope.

The show handled it basically perfectly IMO - the ruse is obvious enough that it only confuses the heroes for a second, but that second is still dangerous when it's enough to make you turn your back on a psychopath with a knife.

Really looking forward to Angry Face Mirio next ep.

I'm impressed by the fact that they managed to both A. not show any of Himiko's lady parts when she's nude and B. make it look natural so it doesn't draw attention to the fact that they're hiding it.

I always took that as being stains from her transformation goo.

The grey body suit is only there for the TV broadcast I think. She also has the grey "suit" on during the Provisional License arc, but was just nude in the blueray version.

One of the things I love about this series is how it humanizes the villains just as much as it does the heroes. You really can, if not sympathize with, at least understand why someone might turn to becoming a villain.

I like the freaky bird masks

They've done a really good job of sticking to the motif while also giving every character a fairly distinct design within the motif

it's kinda interesting that Himiko has been holding her own in fights with the sheer power of being a girl with a knife.

In something like Naruto or Hunter x Hunter or Jojo, a mundane weapon like a gun or a knife would just be completely worthless no matter which hero you're fighting against. But Himiko's regularly in this situation where she's not disguised and is just fighting with her knife and is a serious threat.

I guess she's really good at picking her fights, because Kirishima or Todoroki or Bakugo would obviously just destroy her.

Himiko is similar to Harley Quinn in that regard in which she's far more powerful than she logically should be.

He was able to instinctively predict and counter punch guy through sheer experience by watching so many fights through his quirk. He sent him flying not through brute force, but a combo of his own strength and using his opponent's momentum against them.

Predicting a big strong punchy guy probably isn't had to do for a guy who's worked with All Might and obsessively watched him for years.

There is a difference between predicting that you need to dodge and then punch a guy so hard he flies into a wall and being able to actually do it through.

As for Toga, I just accept she's going with knives in the same way Eraser is good with his wire things.

I was surprised to see eraserhead get chumped like that. Obviously there was a surprise attack angle and not knowing his opponent's capabilities, but my understanding was his whole deal was disabling his opponent's quirks, then beating the poo poo out of them because he's essentially specialized for an effectively quirkless vs quirkless duel. Girl With Knife must be pretty drat good at knifing to get the easy shank in on him like that, didnt he throw down against dozens of villains at once during the initial league of villains appearance?

Yeah I liked Aizawa vs Toga because neither of their quirks actually help at fighting directly so both of them just became bullshit ninja masters instead.

Deku could've done that instead of writing his journals all through middle school!

I vaguely remember having this exact same conversation before during the Stain fight who also had a quirk that shouldn't make him a better fighter.

Remember that Toga was kind of clowning on Deku when she was posing as Camie in the license exam, seemingly through sheer skill and speed. She's clearly been hitting the same gym that Mr 'Flashstep' Shigaraki goes to.

Her losing to Uraraka is the outlier if anything, though she wasn't really taking her seriously at the time.

stain's quirk is incredibly deadly. he's "not a better fighter" until he hits you exactly once. and then you lose. which makes him a much better fighter

less versatile than like, shigaraki or overload, but it's not the same as aizawa's "level the playing field" quirk, or toga's quirk which is purely subterfuge

Even with out super powers, hit you exactly once with a sword, and then you lose is usually the case.

It's a little surprising how many of these super heroes can be brought low by the evil villians Gun Haver or even the less powerful Knife Haver.

Most of the pro heroes we see seem like they'd do OK against people with knives... guns would be rarer in Japan anyway, and I would not be shocked if the historical outcome of "you gun down a pro hero, or blow up her house, or something" is "real shortly thereafter All Might or Endeavor find you and beat/broil you into criminal sauce."

Before he started weakening I'm not sure you could kill All Might with a gun. You could probably hurt him, but he seemed kind of indestructible.

All Might certainly acted like he was invulnerable, whether he actually was we'll probably never know. Power type quirks do seem to grant enhanced durability though.

That's actually a plot point in Chainsaw Man, another Jump manga running right now.

A big chunk of the supporting cast is wiped out by a bunch of Yakuza members with guns.

They also shoot the main heroine in the head, leaving her on the floor of a train. This... does not work out as well for them as you might think.

Of course, MHA does have a lot of heroes who can tank bullets, including Deku and Kirishima in 1-A, and a lot more heroes who can block bullets if they know they're coming, like Shoto and Momo.

Even if you can get your hands on a gun (which is more difficult in Japan) it's no guarantee you'll win, especially with giants and hardening quirks being some of the most common combat-useful ones.

That makes me wonder, with some of these more obscure quirks, how would you know how they work? Did Fat Gum one day just take a punch to the gut and then lay a guy out? How does Deku not know that maybe he has a useless quirk like the ability to turn molybdenum into pastries.
