CHUDS think American cities are overrun with illegal immigrants, crime, drugs, and that they are active war-zones ala Fallujah 2004 or Hue 1969 or some poo poo and think cops are just fighting wars against gangs of minorities. This goes for European cities too. I remember I had a client from Montana say she would pray for my safety when I told her I was taking a Holiday to London and Paris a few years ago.

It's really funny/infuriating to me how little people understand about random violence. Yes i'm more likely to be mugged in a bad area of Chicago then an affluent suburb in bumfuck somewhere but it's not like it just happens if you go there. Have these people never traveled, or gone anywhere? I've been downtown alone in most major cities in the US late at night and never been mugged or attacked. Even for women(which i understand is a whole different experience from a guy) the chances of you actually being a victim of violent crime is very low. Semi quoting Joe Kendra(Homicide Hunter dude) "If you don't associate with people that traffic or use narcotics, and don't marry badly you will (probably) not be murdered." The cities aren't that scary and most street people/people out randomly at night are pretty cool. poo poo just carry a pack of cigarettes and hand em out. I've been nearly mugged 4 times in a relatively middle class neighborhood in Lisbon and I still wouldn't call it a "war zone". I just avoid going out alone at night or in isolated places. That's it.

Cities are full of nonwhite people and most whites in America live in a neighborhood without minorities. This problem isn't getting any better, and as the country trends less and less white a greater share of the white population retreats to so-called "extreme whitopias" -- counties that post high population growth from white inflows that are 90% or more white. These are often exurban counties bordering a large metro area, precisely the people that the corporate media target when it comes to racial fearmongering.

Maine is the most rural state with Alaska being next. Alabama and Mississppi are actually very urban. The last time most Americans lived on farms and tiny towns was in 1860. Expeditions and F-150 4x4's litter driveways and suburbia.

Somebody was shot in the parking garage at a suburban shopping mall here a few weeks ago, and the news described it as a robbery. I’ve heard people cite this incident and say things along the line of “one more reason this mall’s been taken over by the thugs, can’t go here anymore.” Turned out the shooter and the victim were related and had a dispute over money, but that bit of news is never going to be fed back into their mental models because it doesn’t reinforce their original assumption.

I live in a neighborhood that is technically on the south side of Chicago (in that it is geographically south of downtown). In the four years I've lived here, I've never been the victim of crime, and have only very rarely felt less than totally safe. Regardless, every time I talk to my grandma, she informs me that I'm desperately unsafe and need to relocate asap. It's honestly hosed up how divorced from reality these people have become. mdemone posted:Oh god no, not this again with AoF. Please do not.

I did a version of this to my mom and she had the most insane (don't probe me PPJ) loving meltdown My grandparents were Chinese who immigrated to the Philippines and while she wasn't full on Catholic she was heavily influenced by it growing up. She eventually left, came to the states and lost touch with religion because she just didn't have time to devote to it on account of having to work her rear end off to get by. I had really fond memories of her growing up; she was incredibly loving and genuinely one of the nicest people I knew. As she's approaching retirement her work started winding down. She decided to use her free time to reconnect with religion; she started attending church, joined bible studies, made new friends. She never, ever used to talk to about politics outside of poo poo that had a clear, direct impact on her (like unions, etc) and within less than a year she was addicted to youtube videos ranting about AOC, Soros and the immigrant horde. One night I caught her on a phone call with one of her nazi friends laughing and gloating about toddlers being gassed at the border during the caravan hysteria. "They're violent criminals!" So I pulled her aside one day and told her she is no longer the person who raised me. She has become a fascist lunatic who betrays everything I was taught while growing up. She fuckin went nuts and this is 100% true yelled "YOU THINK I'M A BAD PERSON THEN?! I'M THE DEVIL?! YOU THINK I'M THE DEVIL?! FINE, I'LL BE THE DEVIL! I'M THE DEVIL! I'M THE DEVIL!"

Yeah, Alaska's ruralness (millions of square miles with literally nothing in them and like two cities where everyone lives because venturing outside them means you're trapping bears all winter) versus Maine's (relatively small area with just lots of little towns and no cities to speak of) is gonna really gently caress those statistics. Still I am routinely blown away by just how empty Maine is. Just endless tree-covered mountains full of nothing. And then the instant you cross the border into Canada it's wall-to-wall farmland

My coworker who opined that the entire impeachment process, Mueller Report, Steele Dossier, etc etc, were all the works of treasonous Democrats is 46 years old. I had a mental hospital stay last year and as part of my release I had to do this outpatient therapy group; there was this older guy in our group, probably mid 60s. He was on tons of welfare programs but had basically gone full Trump after swallowing Fox News for probably decades. His only daughter told him not to come back ever again after a "political disagreement" at Thanksgiving. He took responsibility for other bad things in his life, like addiction, but absolutely refused to admit that his ranting about Fox News conspiracy theories could be an unwise practice. He traded his family for Trump. I just couldn't believe it
