ReRise alternating between character-oriented and action-oriented episodes was a pretty good decision. It gives them time to plan out fight choreography and save the budget to make it look good too.

We already knew Jed was a dead man walking thanks to all the character spotlight on him, but the way he tried to shield the kids in vain reminded me of that part in Macross where the Zentradi bombarded the Earth with lasers and a soldier also tried to protect a kid. I like how they managed to sell just how powerful the satellite's blast is by the shockwaves spreading out so far and still causing so much damage.

I appreciate their restraint in not having Kazami go "Wait, but I told the AI about Seguri!" The expression of dawning horror on his face pretty much said he was thinking about it.

I've watched about half the episode on my lunch break today, and having just watched The Expanse season 4, the whole shockwave from a massive explosion going around the world really struck a chord.

I paused at the title card (14 minutes in wtf), so I'll finish up the episode later.

edit: I was just thinking about the .hack franchise from way back when, and now this.

The guys who do the Kingdom and Terra Formars mangas did some redesigns of Mobile Suits, and for some reason there is a short film showing them off.

Crunchyroll has all of them except X, Turn A, AGE, and G-Reco

I know they call it a lightsaber. But it's actually a super-hot tungsten rod. So this is really a real life heat saber:

Maybe they can make a heat hawk next.

It basically is a Dom's heat saber anyway. Gundam weapons aren't iconic enough in Western media and consciousness for him to make that jump though. Colinfurze, the Hacksmith etc mostly work on Marvel and Star Wars stuff from what I've seen, and Gundam probably isn't on their radar.

They also tend to simplify designs (in terms of engineering, if not aesthetics) to make them feasible, and the heat axe only having a heated edge is probably too difficult to achieve and would result in them either heating the whole thing or just making a heat saber anyway. Maybe a Gouf style heat sword.

In sweden we celebrate on the eve rather than the day so:

Merry Christmas Gundam thread!

Is that for all holidays out of interest? Or just Christmas? If yes, does that include birthdays? Wouldn't that make the eve the actual holiday then? Or is it just celebrate as in "give presents" on the eve, and the day itself still has significance of some kind?

Edit: Also, Merry Christmas, because duh, what a rude rear end in a top hat I almost was in my curiosity.

Droyer
Oct 9, 2012

it's just christmas because christmas eve exists whereas birth eve does not. I'd imagine there are probably special church services and such on the the 25th but as someone who isn't religious christmas day is very much just the day after christmas the way i imagine boxing day is in america.

For the Sweden thing I've been told its done on the eve because in ye really olden pagan days or something sunset was considered the next day or something like that.

I think Boxing Day is just the British holiday. I know in Ireland we call it St. Stephen's Day even though realistically it's the same thing, and I imagine America probably has it's own version. Wikipedia at least says they don't call it Boxing Day, and it's just an un-named day after Christmas, as well as that a good few other former British colonies do call it Boxing Day. Just not America apparently (though someone here from America could certainly say better than Wikipedia). It's also the best part of Christmas now that I'm an adult and don't generally care about presents, because while the big slap up meal on Christmas Day is nice, the left overs from everything being mixed up in to one big meal is amazing and the thing I most look forward to each year.

Fake Edit: Also mechs. Do you think Santa has changed his sleigh for a Gundam in at least one AU? Because everything else is mobile suits, so gently caress it, why not him too? It wouldn't be full on Futurama "Robot Santa", but he'd probably ride a Gundam. Pulled by other mobile armors in some fashion for the anachronism of it. I'm imagining a Psyco Gundam in Christmas Colors pulled by Baund Doc's in the laziest customization with just regular versions wearing antler deelie-boopers personally; no idea why.

Boxing Day isn’t a holiday in the USA, it’s business as usual. Many people take the day off, and some small businesses may be closed, but it’s nothing official.

I swear there's a brief scene in Unicorn where the Nahel Argama is getting ready for a fight and the captain orders everyone to suit up and for the ship to switch to combat bridge, which results in their chairs getting lowered through the ground. I've fast-forwarded through all seven Unicorn episodes and can't find it, and it's driving me up the wall. :negative:

@SOMEGUY7893 well he didn't outright call him Hitler he just referred to him a fascist which is correct based on how the principality's government worked but zeon was more like fascist Italy the Germany since you had a sovereign and a dictator at the same time Italy had the king and below him was Mussalini, and aside from the outcome of world War 2 and it's atrocities. Fascism was a very successful form of government compared to Marxist, socialist, and communist governments of the time.

They did a much better job with differentiating the real-world characters from their GBN avatars this time around in Build Divers: ReRise. Having one in a wheelchair was a nice way to sell what the first series just did not manage to convey about GBN too. Making him a middle-eastern prince was kinda unnecessary though.

I just hope we have more Tiny May antics outside of GBN, it was fun seeing her lose her usual composure. I love her wee little house and bar counter :allears:.

Again; unnecessary. It does absolutely nothing to add to the plot at hand, and if anything distracts from it.

If Par's being in a wheelchair is because of some kind of height-related accident, that would retroactively make the arc where he got over his fear of heights a lot better.
