I legit like A Christmas Carol in nearly all iterations and I very much liked the gritty new one with Guy Pearce and produced by Tom Hardy that was on Fx (in the USA).

I might just be missing all of them but I feel like there's not a whole lot of Rube Goldberg machines anymore.

Yep, so good. From a long lost era when comedies were good. Hollywood seems to be in a particular comedy-drought for the last several years. What comedies they do put out either suck completely, or maybe have 1 or 2 good scenes at most. Something like Planes is great in every scene. I can't even remember the last great modern comedy that I really loved. Bridesmaids, maybe?
