I don't recognise the next game but people are saying it's probably Shadow Tactics

Hopefully it’s Shadow Tactics cause that game is amazing and the dev needs all the money to make more Commandos like games cause Commandos games are amazing.

It’s a stealth game from an overhead perspective set in Feudal Japan where you control a squad of character. Each character specializes in a way to eliminate enemies. And you have to systematically work through a level, ideally completely silently without anyone noticing you were there.

Equating it to Commandos is pretty apt, you have a number of missions and specialists that can do very specific things well, use their tools to solve the mission.

ooh, I've been looking for a game like that. I really just want a game like Company of Heroes but one that just follows one squad of dudes and I attack things. I don't have multitasking skills to handle babysitting an entire map of dudes. I really like the start of Company of Heroes 2 where you fight across the map with a couple squads but then these games always turn into me having to manage a huge army and it's only ever me having to defend against waves of enemies and that just isn't fun for me.

The Xcom series might fit your criteria too.

Your team varies from managing 3-4 people depending on the mission, iirc. And you can pause, so there's not much multitasking without planning. Just don't savescum like I did. It sucks all the fun out of it after only a few missions.

Try Robin Hood: The Legend Of Sherwood. It's my first experience with that kind of game.

Dawn of War 2's single player campaign is about controlling 4 dudes in a very coh like game, since it's by the same guys.

Can also be played in co-op with you each controlling 2 each as well.

It's also quite good - despite Dawn of War 2 generally feeling 'off' for me after Dawn of War 1, I still replayed the campaign more than once and occasionally get the itch to play it again.

Today's EGS freebie is Shadow Tactics

Tomorrow looks like The Talos Principle

Shadow Tactics is really good. It takes the stealth strategy elements of Commandos and Desperados and transfers them to a feudal Japan scenario.

The devs are also currently making Desperados 3.

If I still havent played talos and I have a rift, should I play the VR port or the non vr version for the first time?

same question for alien isolation and subnautica I guess

The VR version of talos is totally separate, so you have to make a hard choice beforehand of which you want to play. I'm assuming the free version is the normal version. I haven't played the VR version yet, and I keep wanting to buy it to see what it's like, so I don't know. I think Alien Isolation is a fan hack after the original VR mode was removed, and I haven't played that one yet. VR for subnautica is ok if you have a computer that can do it well. This one has a high chance of making you sick if you are susceptible to it because it tends to run poorly in VR and the movement is just really weird compared to normal VR games.

Apparently there's a leaked EGS game list on reddit that's been accurate so far. Besides tomorrow's Talos Principle the remaining games are

- Kingdom Come: Deliverance
- Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair
- A Knight's Quest
- Cardpocalypse

Obviously nothing is guaranteed, but it's probably best to hold off buying these particular games until the 31st.

I would guess that it'd more likely be the first YL game, honestly. I've heard really good things about the new one, though (it's apparently very much in the vein of Donkey Kong Country) so I'd be excited to be able to play it

The two games they repeated from previous giveaways (Celeste and Hyper Light Drifter) weren't on the leaked list though, so I wonder if two of those games pulled out and the repeats were a last minute replacement.

Well there's only 4 games left (including Talos Principle) so unless they do like a ,"Two Games Finale!" or something definitely one of those cant be included.
I'd say A Knight's Quest & Cardpocalypse are pretty much guaranteed, since they're exclusives that Epic snapped up without much fanfare (because...no brand). Kingdom Come also seems more plausible to me because it's been out longer & it's on Game Pass, which seems 2 have a lot of overlap with the games EGS gives away.

The VR port of Talos is good but it’s also the only VR title I’ve played that consistently makes me want to vomit. If you don’t get motion sickness though it’d be excellent.

Absolutely play Subnautica in VR though. It takes some fiddling to get right as the UI can be a little too close to your face but it’s worth it. After playing through Subnautica in VR I can’t go back to the non-VR version.

Why does EPS have some free game releases for Windows only even though there's a Mac release too? They had Shadow Tactics up the other day and I was like, oh sweet I've always wanted to give this a shot, but it was Windows only, and a couple days before that I grabbed Into The Breach, which they had for both Windows and Mac.

It's already slim pickins for Mac users, don't tease me like that.
