The human drama is not a backdrop to the politics, the politics are a backdrop to the drama.

I agree with a lot of what you said, but I don't agree with this.

Broadly we can say that Revachol is representative of our world. Well, the intent is Eastern Europe, but it extends.

But the parallels in the story go deeper than that. Harry is a specific symbolic representation of Revachol itself.

He was a gym teacher, which represents Facism.
He fell in love with his ex, 'communism' and became something greater.
Then his ex left him, and he became a morose drunk. Revachol as a puppet state.
At the beginning of the game Harry is dead. He just died.
Through the play of the game you restore him to life.
"After Life Death, After Death Life"
That's the connection to Delores Dei, the Insulidarian Miracle. That's why she is the ex, and why the ex is also 'girl child communism'.
Obviously, Delores was not literally communism, she was specifically an imperialist. Harry's ex (and Delores also) represents an ideal that couldn't be kept.
(Also note that this is why the Deserter shot the Hanged man, he had gone crazy enough that he viewed communism and Klassje interchangeably.)

So, Harry muddles through, acting insane in a world that seems normal but he implicitly understands the absurdity of, trying to figure out if he can be saved from death.
This flailing by Harry could be the reason his political opinions are so direct. (Actually, I think the reason that the political statements are so in your face is that the authors realized that a lot of people have put no effort into understanding political philosophy and they realized they couldn't afford to be subtle.)

In any case, searching for the phasmid is a microcosm of Harry's search. He has hope, even though finding love is impossible. But then there it is, finally.
Obviously, Harry's not going to get his ex back, exactly 0% of that communism has been built. But it's obvious that in the author's eyes communism is the path forward for Revachol, they aren't offering any alternatives. Facism is the opposite of what Revahol needs, Ultraliberalism is what is destroying it, and moralism is just standing by and watching. But it won't be the old version of communism, it must be a new one. So, it's inaccurate to say that phasmid is communism, the phasmid is love. But the necessary byproduct of love is communism. (Are you going to stop building love too?)

When Harry stops the war, he is triggering the chain of events that will lead to The Return. It could have been anyone to do that, but at the same time, it had to be Harry because he is symbolic of Revachol.

The phasmid is really there and it loves Harry. (The Genius Loci is really there and it loves Harry.)
There is truly hope for Harry.
And so there is hope for Revachol.
And so there is hope for us.

Okay, I think, I think that's what I needed to post about this game. Thanks.

You can't. Kim will specifically note that you're in danger of going into a loop. That's how I figured out I should come back and try again without him (note that the dialog option has already been selected in the past).

expressionless, shaved Harry is the man that Slavoj Zizek thought about when writing about the Desert of the Real

expressionless, muttonchop Harry is a post-Camusian hero, a man reduced to nothing by this cruel world but whose greatness of heart and valiance of spirit creates objective, universal meaning through his actions for the sake of humanity

Expression-having shaved Harry is the postmodern surrenderer, deserter of humanity, complete ironic fucktarded rear end in a top hat and probably a loving fascist

Steeeeriiiiiiiiike twooooooo!

Just ended my first run this morning, so I haven't been in this thread. Still trying to figure out exactly how much of what happened was unique to my run, and how much was on rails.

It was all very good, but one of the legit saddest experiences I've had in a game was trying to give "Dolores Dei" one of the figurines during the dream in front of the video store. Her asking what she wants with it now and wishing I'd done that type of thing when we were together broke my heart.

Can I satisfyingly go full monarchist/fascist in this game? I spend too much of my real life fighting the long defeat for a better future. So in-game I'd rather try fighting the long defeat to recover a mythical past for a change.

By satisfying, I mean does the game actually have a comparable amount of content for monarchists/fascists as it does for socialists and shitlibs?

Alright so is there anything I can do to avoid game over when I drop to 0 health/morale? I know I can pop charges to recover them but that's not always an option, and the things that make me lose health/morale seem really arbitrary and unpredictable. I got a game over from asking a loving car where it's been, so I'm a little put off by that.

Don't have 1 in the skills that control your Health/Morale. You never take more than one damage at a time.

Fister Roboto

OK but that doesn't answer my question, what should I do if I'm at 1 health/morale? Do I just avoid doing anything because some random dialogue option might kill me? Do any of the game over dialogue options matter, is there some way to avoid it?

Go out the door of the bar and turn right. You'll be tripping your dick over health potions soon enough tho so don't worry too much and just laugh at the idea of whispering to a car so badly you decide to quit the force.
