Their post-2000 stuff often gets overlooked and there are some real gems there.

I can confirm.

So something off Thundersteel or Privilege of Power might be in the tops songs.

Yes.
Dance of Death is quite possibly my personal favourite Maiden album, or at least a very close second behind Brave New World. The title track and Paschendale both are loving masterpieces, and the rest of the songs are no slouches either.

I love reading this.
I've encountered so many Iron Maiden hipsnobsters who refused to listen to anything post "Fear of the Dark" because "classic maiden are the best/only maiden" it's refreshing to meet some people who share my love for later Maiden.

This is probably one of my faves:

There's also an episode of "Live from Abbey Road" where they played this, but it's not on youtube. Have a dailymotion link instead:

They begin again

Been listening to a lot of Maiden this week so I guess I’ll dig into some of the newer stuff IF YOU INSIST. I know it’s solid though, really. They’re a fantastic band even when they’re just Iron Maidening around and not doing anything particularly mindblowing.

bruce dickinson's solo stuff is okay and the first two maiden albums are alright, but when he joined the band they started just recycling the same couple songs and like four riffs over and over. at some point in the late 80s they got even lazier and just started repeating the song title a bunch in the chorus

Maiden have never recycled riffs. Harris just recycles chord progressions.

The Chemical Wedding is one of the best heavy metal albums ever dude. I'll concede that the song where Bruce yells 'Satan!!' is pretty bad tho

Chemical Wedding is a masterpiece. Okay doesn't even begin to do it justice.

Satan? Is that Killing Floor?

Skjorte
Jul 5, 2010
Yeah, that's Killing Floor. It's done no favors by being sandwiched between The Tower and Book of Thel, which might be the album highlights for me, but I think it's pretty fun to hear Bruce on a slightly Tool-like alternative metal tune. Chemical Wedding is definitely the best Maiden-related album of the 90s. Bruce himself also just sounds so much better there than on the last 3-4 Maiden albums he did before leaving.

I mean the album is pretty seamless from the start to about Jerusalem, and the last song bring back the riff from chemical wedding right at the end blew my mind the first time i listened to it.

I mean the riffs on Killing Floor as so good it overcomes the slightly cringey chorus.
