Anyone remember that time completely unrelated subforums got merged as a joke? YCS and Pet Island got merged as part of that but I was beyond disappointed that the resultant name wasn't "Your Pet Sucks". also: turDUKEn

Jerry Cotton posted:Has something new come up or aren't we still at "literally everyone 'has non-white blood in them'" vis-à-vis scientific consensus? If you go by "where are your ancestors from?" then literally every human that has ever lived is African. The general scientific consensus, far as I know anyway, is that the Out of Africa theory is the right one. Africa is (yes part of this is just that it's freaking huge) absurdly more genetically and culturally diverse than the rest of the world. The further out you get from there and the less culturally and genetically diverse people get. If you look at archaeological data we do occasionally find "people were here a few hundred years before we thought" things in places like Siberia or the Americas but the archaeological record in Africa still goes back thousands and thousands of years before that pretty solidly. Homo sapiens (you know, us) have been around for 250,000 to 350,000 years. The oldest thing in the Americas that we know about is like 20,000 years old. That's a time difference of "a long loving time." The timelines gleaned from dating archaeological data points to people starting in Africa and just wandering out from there. There was a thread in Ask/Tell for discussion of art for commissions, where a lot of artists were talking about their experiences working for various flavors of weirdo. Cue this guy barging in to complain in disjointed near-word-salad posts about how this girl from his anime club wouldn't take his completely reasonable commissions and how he's developed a "bad boy reputation" in the club. IIRC what he wanted was two naked female characters pressing their breasts together sweatily, and he was completely confused as to why some random girl who wasn't even taking commissions wouldn't want to draw this for him.

For a long time people thought that Polynesian artifacts found all over the Pacific couldn't possibly be Polynesian considering how far away some of them were apart. Then more study (and, you know, actually talking to actual Polynesians) found out that Polynesians were really, really good at the ocean going way back. Turns out you can actually navigate pretty well without things like sextants or compasses. Turns out that one of the reasons entire cultures never bothered inventing mechanical navigation devices was because they just never needed them. I would totally believe it if it turned out that some people took to boats then just kept going. It might goober up the timelines a bit but that still gives people over 100,000 years to get from Africa to Australia.

`Nemesis posted:What on earth is going on in trad gaming? AFAICT, people in the Fascists In Trad Gaming thread were arguing about (now former) mod Beer 4 The Beer God, and some people quoted old posts of Beer's from Ask/Tell to support their argument, and, bafflingly, got perma'd for "doxxing" by Jeffrey of YOSPOS. Then a while later someone else actually doxxed Beer and also got permabanned. This was then cited as justification for leaving the earlier permabans in place and the thread was locked. At some point in this process Beer demodded themself. This would probably be good for at least two QCS threads if QCS were open, but it's not, so instead it bubbles into other threads in TG.

Bad for an effort thread like Chickencheese or the minion joker thread that went around recently: https://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3905749. Come to think of it, I remember at least one GBS thread getting dumped into FYAD and GBS posters ending up chainprobated for their posts. gently caress looking through that mess though. And I wouldn't be surprised if it happened to the GBS threads that got dumped into CSPAM. But I don't remember a GIP/TFR -> D&D thread. Funny thing is if this (https://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3611265) is how the reports look to the mods, it's hard to tell how old a post is without clicking through. There's no timestamp on the post in the reporting field.
