Does that last part track at all? Yeah I will say that Into the Breach looks like a turn based tactics game but it feels very different and not like Fire Emblem at all. Each encounter is very short and there is almost no variance -- you always see what the enemies will do, where, and when, and none of your attacks are chance-based, so it's about figuring out exactly what the solution to the clockwork mechanism is that will let you survive the given number of turns

Lowtax bans people for mod sass all the time, especially if you sass him. I don't think many of the other mods / admins do it anymore but it's something he does.

The third one you didn't mention is uh, Ramen Sensei, I remember that one being a real bitch. Pocket Arcade Story got a remake that fixes a ton of the issues with it, I suggest that one. Finished Outer Wilds this evening. I thought it ran into a small problem that a lot of games do which is the world goes from feeling massive to rather small by the end. That said, what a fantastic job of storytelling. The fact that so much of the game is tracing the steps of a long-gone culture means that the player is often exploring and unraveling story simultaneously. The pacing and gripping nature of the story is really a feat considering you can pretty much go anywhere and do anything at will. The only thing in your way is your own understanding of the mechanics of the galaxy. Great game, definitely one a standout experience this year.

I finally "got" into the breach. First few times I tried it I got frustrated not being able to reset my level, taking it kind of Advance Wars style. Got my first victory. I went to the final mission after only 2 islands just to see what I would be facing, kind of assuming I'd lose. I beat the first part just fine, tanked a few rounds of burrowing to make it easier. Panicked when I saw a part 2, pretty low health on mechs. Seems like Mech health is just a resource to use in battles to defend grid and such. Refills at the start though. I did have a moment where I was ready to give up and only kept going to see what would happen. I had a meh turn, and spotted a pretty slick and efficient move to have a much better turn. I used my reset, and set everything up for my sweet turn, which involved using the artillery mech to attack the "building" and push its immediate threats away or into lava. Turns out the upgrade to safely target ally buildings does not apply to allied items like the bombs (didn't get to test on the pylons). So I blew up my own bomb and penalized myself an additional 5 turns, had a much worse turn than my initial turn, and doomed one of my mechs. When I was down to 2 mechs with 3 or 4 more turns, I kept having more critical threats than I could possibly solve in a turn, but got lucky with some defends, and a couple of generous lava appearances. I dig it, and the sound effect for unlocking a new squad is really good. edit: Custom Squad trip report: Three Jet Mechs is a very bad squad.
