Might as well, I see a ton of things in theaters and I'm already keeping a 1-5 rating system. This will get to me to write a lil something about each film.

If you find your original diary entry for it and edit that, it should work without logging it again.

Playoffs are no big deal,
don't have a crap attack.
Hello, friends. Months ago, after a gentle nudging from a friend, I decided that on January 1st, I would start using Letterboxd. Unfortunately, I don't think I will ever move all my ratings/reviews from Criticker over, so I will be starting with a completely blank slate for the new decade.

https://letterboxd.com/twin_cinema/

I will start reading this thread and adding people.

Time for a little robot chauvinism!

Yeah, when I made Letterboxd I decided not to import everything from Criticker. So on one hand it's frustrating that my log only goes back to October 2014 and there's nearly 2,000 movies I've seen not featured on my account (I've seen Taxi Driver! Just not in 5+ years). On the other hand it's kind of nice to just look at it as a journal of my immediate thoughts and feelings for movies I've seen since graduating college. If I added them all now it would feel wrong.

I only consider my film opinions from the past 15 years valid anyway. I had taste to some degree before I was 18, but I can't really trust my opinions of the time on a lot of movies. And even then, only really since my mid 20s are my opinions Objectively Good by my current standards. So I don't rate give a rating to anything that I haven't seen in the past decade and I don't watch something as watched if I haven't seen it since I was a teenager.

I have been using Criticker since 2007, but didn't really start using it until 2009, and my reviews were really only from 2005-onwards. I started giving mini reviews around 2014. Essentially, this spans the time from when I was 18 until now.

I like them as a time capsule, but I can't really stand by a rating I gave a film in 2010, because I don't remember much about it.

I splurged on a Pro account and changed my user name which also came with some sweet, sweet end of year stats that got totalyl skewed by me watching all the James Bond films.

criticker had an api that you could query for stats and reviews etc.. if letterboxd has one also it could be simple to create a script to do that

Well, to the surprise of absolutely no one, I watched a shitload of Star Wars content last year. Also, I do log short films, so some of my stats are a bit wacky (like how I have 11 films from Rian Johnson logged when the man's only made 5 theatrical features)

you export criticker to XML and import to letterboxd. I did it, it's super easy, the only hiccup is that any review that ends with a " mark breaks the xml and carries over the result, so you have to do a little bit of tlc on the xml before importing.

Where's the Criticker export option?

edit: found it, you have go to all your ratings and there's a link in the bottom left.

If it's not on Letterboxd yet, you need to follow the instructions here to get it to show up at all. If it's pre-existing, ehhh, I'd say it usually takes less than a day or so. Haven't noticed it taking that long

Cross post from the Oscars thread:

pospysyl posted:

A little while back, a user on movie review/social networking site Letterboxd ran his own version of the Oscar nomination process using the same ranked choice voting system the Academy uses. There are 25 rounds where the films with the lowest amount of votes are eliminated, and whatever is left after the 25th round is nominated.

Almost 2800 people participated, and he interesting thing about the results is that they're almost identical to what the Academy actually picked out. Voting took place at the same time as the Academy vote, so the official nominations had no influence on these results. The only differences are that instead of 1917 and Jojo Rabbit, Letterboxd selected The Lighthouse and Portrait of a Lady on Fire. 1917 not making an appearance makes sense given that it wasn't in wide release when the initial voting took place, but Portrait of a Lady on Fire making it on with its own limited release is fairly impressive. The Lighthouse is the A24 rep on the list, which also makes sense given that A24 advertises on Letterboxd fairly extensively. Here are the vote result breakdowns.

I guess a hollow star could work? but most people rate 1-10 rather than 0-10.

Just went through and added a bunch of y'all. Here's mine https://letterboxd.com/katef/ but rating things gives me anxiety because how can I judge Spring Breakers in comparison to True Grit??? I wish they didn't have half stars, I can't handle that kind of choice. But I'm trying to commit more to it going forward...we'll see.

It's mostly horror cuz I was unemployed during this past October and spent my time living in the CineD spooktober threads.
