Maybe he washes his rear end though and has a leg up? How can my husband[32M] and I[22F] best explain to his brother[35M] why he can't find a girlfriend? My brother in law can't find a girlfriend and he's starting to become really bitter about it. He goes on about how it's not fair that my husband is married and younger than him. He's even asked me if any of my friends from back home(I'm not from the US) would be willing to marry him for a green card or money. There's a reason no one wants to be with him. He's an alcoholic with a beer belly that only talks about sports and rents a room from a family, he shares his bathroom with the families kids. That's just not attractive. If my friends wanted a pale, pudgy alcoholic they'd stay where they are! How can we explain this to him without ripping him to shreds? tl;dr: My BIL can't get a girlfriend and wants me to get him a mail order bride. He doesn't realize that the fact that he can't get a girl is his own fault. Best comment comes from poster MAXIMUM FARTING with reasonable advice pointing out to him that he is worthless.

AITA for telling my GF to gently caress off trying to change me?quote:So, me and my girlfriend have been together for a year. We love each other but now my girlfriend seems to be fed up by something. She has not been able to sleep for a couple of days due to my snoring and loud breathing during sleep. She didn't sleep anything today. Of course when I wake up we have a talk about this because that bothered her so she brought it up and asked me to "please go to the doctor and sort it out, I want to be able to cuddle you and sleep next to you but you breath so loud and snore when you're asleep, if you care about me and this relationship do something about it". She has previously slept in the bathtub due to my snoring, lol. (she can't sleep on our sofa since its my parents house and they don't allow that). I woke up once with her sleeping in the bathtub. She is telling me to seek help. But this is who i am and i snore, she has to deal with it and don't ask me to change. The snoring's bad enough, but not brushing his teeth regularly? Eugh.

Someone needs to make a toothpaste that tastes like an unbrushed mouth.

he needs to get that orange flavored toothpaste my mom used to get for me when I was a little kid, that stuff ruled it won't fix his atrocious personality but at least his teeth will be healthier

I usually get Marvis toothpaste in the jasmine mint flavor. It's a lot milder than something like Crest.

Yeah I don't like strong toothpaste flavors but somehow I manage to make do, and even using a toothpaste I dislike feels better than unbrushed teeth.

I don't have dental insurance and I have less than 500 dollars in savings at any given time, you better believe I brush AND floss since this guy is living with his parents, I would think that would heavily incentivize him to take care of his teeth, the one thing even european socialized healthcare tends to be really lovely about

The cool thing about stuff like hygiene and clothes is that you don't need to buy needlessly expensive stuff, but if you just pay slightly more than the cheap Walmart brand of everything you can likely get something that's far better and solves whatever problems you may have with it. It's like saving up for the $80 sneakers that will last for 5+ years instead of buying a pair of $10 sneakers that get holes in them and need to be replaced every 6 months. If you don't like your harsh cheap toothpaste, just buy the stuff that costs $10 a tube instead of $3 and it immediately solves that problem!

I wonder if there are "no toothpaste" people like the no shampoo or no soap people, arguing that the mouth is actually self cleaning and you only get plaque because you've accustomed your mouth to harsh chemicals, and just rinsing with water is perfectly fine and normal and actually better for your teeth.

What the gently caress kind of advice is that? Nobody needs $10 toothpaste; in fact brushing with just water is nearly as effective.

Not exactly related to this but isn't there supposedly a tooth decay vaccine under development? Which is a wild concept to begin with frankly.

Someone repost the story about the guy who didn't brush because the feeling of the toothbrush annoyed him, and how he changed his entire diet and would just scratch at his teeth with his fingernails to clean them. The one where he changes every aspect of his life to avoid brushing and then ends by saying "I don't let this control my life."

I felt that way for a while without really articulating it that deeply. I too hated mint toothpaste and as a result didn't brush my teeth regularly for 17 years, and no dentist for the last 10 of those. Dated and got married during that time. When I started seeing a dentist again I had 3 cavities that weren't too severe. Got an electric toothbrush and my taste buds had dulled enough to tolerate toothpaste. Still only floss when I have bad breath or the week before the dentist. Ironically I stopped using shampoo at around the same time, which made my head stop being so itchy. I use antibacterial deodorant instead of antiperspirant and stopped sweating as much. And fine, I'll cop to being the guy who doesn't use soap. I haven't used soap in 6 years now and no one has noticed. If my MiL hasn't gleefully pounced on the fact that I smell, I guarantee that I don't.

My rough understanding is BPD people do just fine forming attachments, they struggle to moderate their emotions and can flip from intense extremes aimed at the same subject. Is he trying to say that he has multiple personality disorders to a lesser/borderline degree?? If he lacks empathy and can't form attachments, it could be anything from autism to sociopathy. People with BPD have many symptoms, but the ones relevant to this case is that they: 1. Have great difficulty moderating their emotions (especially anger) 2. Suffer from a fear of abandonment, often to an exaggerated degree 3. Have "black and white thinking" where they can't hold contradictory beliefs, usually in the sense of having difficulty comprehending a complex person as something more than "good" or "bad" This causes them to have extreme difficulty in their relationships. BPD is most commonly seen in people who suffered an abusive childhood and many of the symptoms are recognizable as coping methods or defense mechanisms; classifying a person as wholly bad because they did a bad thing allows them to immediately cut off someone harmful, which is useful in extreme situations but not a good way to handle adult conflict.
