I've just been using the GOG Galaxy beta to play the 2-3 games I'm playing at the moment instead of dealing with Steam.

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe" -noverifyfiles -nobootstrapupdate -skipinitialbootstrap -norepairfiles -overridepackageurl -silent -no-browser Also make a Steam.cfg and put in there. Gonna try uninstalling and reinstalling steam first. Gonna take a while though since it is deleting all the files and I had a lot of games installed. e: Yay, it worked! No clue what was going on then that was causing the massive permanent lag/slowdown. FirstAidKite fucked around with this message at 03:01 on Jan 4, 2020 |

Today I learned that if you buy a bundle of games you can't return just one or two, it's all or nothing. I'm only out like $6 so I'm hardly upset, but I did expect to be able to return just the ones I immediately disliked.

Was it a bundle with a group discount? Or you just bought a bunch of games in the same transaction?
|
# ? Jan 4, 2020 04:19 |

Bundles have to go back in full, grouped purchases can go back piecemeal.

I learned that back when I mass-removed a bunch of games from my account, shortly after Valve introduced the feature. Had to rebuy a few favorites, fortunately cheap, but it was worth it to be free of the clutter.

I was warned back then, too, but went through with it anyway. I just waited until there was a sale so I could buy back what I wanted at a reasonable price.

Hey thread, I got waylaid by relatives over Christmas and made up for it by buying way the hell too many games. I'm sorting through them on stream tonight, so if you want a wild cross-section of indies I got you right here: https://www.twitch.tv/goldplatedgames

i'll have to do some more removing of games I'll never play at some point, but i've still managed to keep my steamcompletionist at 75% beaten/completed through all of 2019, so unless it plunges I'm fine

Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes: Great game, but requires complete focus and neither of us knows Morse code. Overcooked: I liked it but they completely bounced off of it, so I would have probably returned it. BattleBlock Theater: Other party had intolerable audio issues. We spent 15 minutes trying to troubleshoot it without success, so I would have definitely returned this one. Lovers In a Dangerous Spacetime: They liked it but couldn't stand the imprecision of the keyboard controls, so we'll come back to it once they buy a controller (which they intended to do for other games anyway). Moonhunters: It's a pretty easy game, so great for playing before bed and we can talk while playing. It doesn't have much staying power and I think we'll be done with it in under eight hours.

Is there any way to get the library looking like it used to, where it's just a grid of games with the art for them, or are we now stuck with that side bar and the other weird clutter? Know I'm late to this but couldn't see any options when looking around and it's pretty messy since they updated it.

I'm playing Risk of Rain 2 and there's a ton of items everywhere, but you don't seem to be able to tell what they do until you pick them up. Am I missing something? Am I supposed to memorize what all of these items do? It's exacerbated in multiplayer where I have to keep asking people what items do, for instance at a 3D printer.

Gobbeldygook posted:Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes: Great game, but requires complete focus and neither of us knows Morse code. For Morse code, I recommend using a decoding tree like this one. When you hear a dot move left and down, and dashes move you to the right. So dot dash dash dash is J, dash dot dash is K, for example. Much quicker to decode if you don't actually know it by heart (and pretty much no-one does, statistically).

I just finished Eliza and it's a very powerful, thoughtfully written VN. Definitely gave me a lot to meditate on in our current times.
