Actually one of the best scenes I remember from Paranoia Agent is an otaku's plastic figurines being the ones who spoke for him, calling him just an empty shell. (This was while reality was breaking down and generally being batshit, which is one of the most enjoyable parts of any Kon works.)

At the bare minimum trigger seems to approach making horny from a more assertive, playful, and explorative place than a lot of anime pop-sexualization. It doesn't give me the same sort of "pathetic" and passive vibe as some stuff. They are still usually too horny for my tastes though. The set-up they came up with for Darling in the Franxx is some galaxy brain horny world-building though, it's farcical on it's face in a way that makes me laugh every time i see people seriously discussing it.
