my buddy posted it as his #2 but i hadn't seen it on any other lists

i checked it out due to his recommendation, and drat. it's tremendously good. not my favorite black metal release from 2019, that honor goes to Obsequiae for sure, but it's a drat strong contender

i wonder what else in that realm i missed

New Abigail Williams was solid, would probably make a 2019 list for me if I expanded it to 50 or so.

Been jamming 2020 releases today at work:
Unbound Terror, dm
Zulmet, bm
Grimah, meloblack
Poppet, very cool slow dungeon synth'y atmoblack

What's some good heavier power metal that has shorter songs? I find myself liking random power metal songs well enough, but they're usually too long and overstay their welcome.

Know what I'm talking about?

Well, seems like the time of miracles isn't over afterall; loving Apocalyptica actually released something decent for once, instead of lovely generic radio rock with some boring alt-rock dudes doing guest vocals.

drat, I checked them just last week wondering if they had anything new out. Guess I was early!

I would have been fine if they went back to only doing Metallica covers but original stuff that's actually decent is a win too.

Apocalyptica lost me when they introduced the drums, Cult was a really great album but it got progressively worse from then on, I'm not feeling this song either

Nordick
Sep 3, 2011

Yes.
Conversely it was the drums that really made them click with me. Reflections and the self-titled are absolutely fantastic albums, apart from some dodgy guest vocals on the latter. (Their other guest vocalists from that era were all really good, but Lauri Ylönen from The Rasmus was not a good fit.)

I listened to this new album back to front once now, and while I'm not immediately in love with it, it was pretty enjoyable. Gonna give it a few more spins at least.

The influential musician and lyricist died Tuesday in Santa Monica, Calif., after having been diagnosed with brain cancer, according to a statement issued Friday by family spokesperson Elliot Mintz.
