Maybe some behind the scenes people, but it mostly just sounds like they're trying to hire Chicago people instead of NY people. It'll probably work

They aren't moving anything as no one works at Deadspin.

They are going to try to build the new Deadspin in Chicago where the onion is based.

Is there a possibility they'll tell some junior Onion writer - "We're going to publish all your articles under Onion/Deadspin now, if you don't like it you're fired"?

Yeah, but the media job market here sucks, it's less insular than NY and the 23-year-old transplants they're probably going to hire didn't grow up in a union household

Yep, that's the whole thing. The Onion, The Takeout and I think at least a large chunk of the Clickhole staff are all based in one office in Chicago. Spanfeller's just gradually shifting staffing from NY to Chicago to save some cash.

Chicago is probably much cheaper than NYC too, which seems to be a huge driving force in most of these decisions.

I don't know what Spanfeller is doing purposefully throwing poo poo at the GMG Union though, that seems really dumb and unnecessary. Bury Deadspin and spin up a new sports page with some conciliatory "We Learned Our Lessons" (even though they won't change a thing).

They would have them publicly say they were wrong, though, and that's not possible (from their point of view).

also in other news: Dave Portnoy's Site that Shall Not Be Named might be bought by Penn National Gaming, which owns a sizable number of casinos (if you've got a myChoice slot/poker card, it's a Penn Nat'l casino) to use as IP for sports betting

If WW1 was a character from the Wire, which would it be?: Our panel of Expert NBA podcasters weighs in.

Simmonds: Well obviously it's got to be Snot Boogy right? It's the thing that came first, kind of tragic but also a little funny at the same time. The OG so to speak. But here's- This is the nail in the coffin, I think. Completely forgotten. WW1 was like completely overshadowed by WW2. And same thing with Snot Boogy. Everyone talks about D-Day and DeAngelo Barksdale, never Snot Boogy or Verdun. Completely forgotten. No One Denies This.

Gun to your head, does The Black Hand win the Dion Waiters award or do you think that goes to the Red Baron, who when you think about it, was really like Pedro in 02/03. Listen, I'm not afraid to say it (and I did by the way during my retro live blog of 1917) but Verdun was really one of the all time "how many men do you really need" moments. People think it's about depth but one of my first rules of world waring is that you should always bet on the side with the tallest fortifications. It's like common sense and any 18 year old who plays Total War knows that. I had Clemenceau on the pod and he basically said that they weren't going to quit once they adopted that "nobody believes in us " energy.
