NYT released security cam footage of the Iran AA attack https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/14/world/iran-plane-crash-video.html?action=click&module=Top%20Stories&pgtype=Homepage showing clearly two missiles fired, which would certainly explain why some people were filming already during the second missile launch. The second missile is fired a few seconds after the first missile explodes. Fairly Gut wrenching even if it’s grainy security cam footage from a long distance.

IMO the death knell of the revolution (at least the radical phase of it--the death knell of the original revolution was when the jihadists took over) was Turkey pulling rebels out of Aleppo to fight the Kurds. This is just a more blatant version of the same thing, which is subordinating their interests to Turkish interests in exchange for whatever protection Turkey's willing to offer, because the rebels don't really have anywhere else to turn.

Another option is Content Block Helper, which lets you pick and choose which scripts to load on a site. With a bit of detective work you can figure out the ones that control accounting and page access and disable them.

The new Idlib cease fire sure doesn't seem to have held up long since Russia and the regime were still bombing today and the regime appears to have captured some villages since then. One odd thing that may or may not affect diplomacy involving Russia for a while is that Putin's entire government, including familiar names like Lavrov and Shoigu, resigned. It seems to have been at his direction, so maybe everything is in place to move forward and will run smoothly from there, but some degree of disruption seems likely.

No, the government reshuffle is just for show and won't affect anything. Putin did that for cosmetic reasons, because when he steps down from the presidency in 2024 (while keeping all the power, as in 2008), he needs some figurehead other than Medvedev (who has become extremely unpopular and will no longer be of much use as a heat-sink for discontent) to fill the position of presidential sockpuppet. They were agreed to purely for PR reasons, and broken by the regime at the next tactical opportunity where they would have attacked anyway.

Sure, I have no illusions about the regime's good faith, but some of them have held (with violations limited to shelling and the occasional bombing) for months. This one didn't last a week.

Also, if you don't get anything documented when it happens, it becomes very hard to claim that you had PTSD or other issues from it later. If you don't retire after 20 years, then unless something is documented when you get out it is pretty much impossible to get it covered otherwise.

As long as there's a record that you were involved in something like that, it typically will get reviewed and you'll talk about it in your discharge medical exam. If you have health issues that can be linked to it then they typically will be during disability considerations, unless they changed something in the last 15 years. Hope that nothing that could potentially cause your issues happened and was recorded in your medical records prior to enlisting, though.

A casualty is when a soldier is killed, surrenders/is captured, or when they sustain injuries that make them unfit for duty. In this case they are technically "casualties" in that the missiles were really loud and had shockwaves that resulted in Americans being temporarily rendered unfit for duty because they were sent to Germany to get looked at and as a result weren't active for a time. Getting sick in the line of duty to the point that it renders you unfit for duty also constitutes a "casualty" in military terms. This is a tempest in a teapot.

It was an exceptionally weird response to having american bases hit with strategic missiles and I doubt anyone who saw that response real time didn't wonder wtf was going on.
