One of the sweet things about living in California is regular access to good food. It's a shame we are going to lose that because 2% of our state economy was mandated by capitalism to focus on exclusively catering to the Chinese demand for almonds.

I was at a random bar in Hollywood and it happened to be open mic night. They were apparently toasting some old dude that wrote a tell-all memoir about his life as a gas station giggolo. Lots of jokes about Full Service, but he apparently worked a two-pump setup down the corner from Sunset and would have tons of Leading Men proposition him and poo poo.

Just FYI, a whole bunch of early westward agriculture was done under the idea that "with the plow comes the rain" i.e. if you just cultivated the land God would send rain to water it. LOL.

I moved to Texas several years ago (in the middle of nowhere) and by far the most annoying thing is when people volunteer how "socialist" and "liberal" policies are destroying California and then they remind me not to bring them here by voting Democratic. I'm happy to discuss Californian policies but generally they don't want to get more nuanced than that, especially when I suggest that maybe some of the policies contributing to the state's problems could be "conservative" rather than leftist. Mind you, liberal policies definitely are contributing to this state's issues depending on how you define the term. Other than that though, people from both states are more alike than they are different even if they don't want to admit it. They also do breakfast tacos instead of burritos for some reason.

Breakfast tacos are superior to breakfast burritos since you can have a couple different ones instead of one big one.

Texas is Sacramento's heat with Florida's humidity with more snakes and bugs. I don't care how cheap it is to buy a 3,800 sq foot shithouse in some dusty lot in "McKinney" I'm okay in something much smaller. I should add I'm not trying to be 100% insulting, I totally get why people transfer there, especially at near the same wage they'd get here........and I've been there and did fun stuff like golf, eat bbq, drink and go to sports events and liked it and had a great time but I really wouldn't want to live there. Playing golf there in June was......uh very very very sweaty. Like you need stickum to hang on to yer clubs. Keyser_Soze fucked around with this message at 00:08 on Jan 17, 2020 |

I hear their entire state is funded by property taxes, though, so you're gonna pay some hefty property tax on that palatial texan estate.

You’re going to pay out the nose in utility bills to cool your Texan McMansion too. Texas has plenty of ways of making up for not having a state income tax.

Still not enough to really have a functioning state government. The state version of the EPA for example has a $400m budget-- for a comparison, Cal EPA's is $1.8 billion. You can probably guess at how efficient it is at regulating industry.

I was looking at buying a cheap house on the east coast, and a lot of the property taxes are absolutely insane. In a lot of places, the house cost about $100k, with $8k a year property taxes, which makes the taxes more than the mortgage.

It is unfortunate though that as much as I love my home state, I have resigned myself to the reality that I will probably never be able to afford to live there again. I hope y'all figure that out eventually. I have family back home that have working class salaries (50k-ish) and they really are struggling.
