They're in que to receive buffs, maybe?

The nail gun has been poo poo since it was first released ages ago, the freezethrower is gated behind the kind of underwhelming Survivalist class, and the .500 is pretty decent but in a crowded field of Gunslinger weapons.

The new(?) VA they got for objective mode is really poorly performed/implemented, but the mode itself is pretty enjoyable! I'm hoping it's not setting up a curtain call like it did in the first game.

I'm asking for *consistent* VA work. The new voiceover that plays in tandem with Mrs. Decent-French-Accent keeps weaving between a poor imitations of French and Russian. She's also has a very dusky voice compared to the original VA.

It would have been fine if they just wrote it as a completely new Horzine employee who grew a conscience, but in doing both it just sounds kinda rear end. Also the voice acting in the base game is pretty good in spite of the game's budget, so

The .500 is a staple of Gunslinger, though. It's also the best weapon Sharpshooter can use while carrying the m99, so I don't see why it would need a buff. You're right when you say the nailgun has been consistently terrible (although it was ironically one of the best Support weapons in KF1), but the freezethrower has gotten a rework this last update, so I don't know why they would still think it was underpowered.

Steam Fortress really feels like they wanted to remake the airship without any of the mechanics. This and Spillway are a huge step back from the progressively more interesting maps we were getting, like Krampus' Lair, monster castle, and Santa's workshop.

Okay, serious egg on my face here- what I'm looking for in terms of the next step up from Krampus' Lair and Santa's Workshop is the Objective mode for Steam Fortress, Outpost, and Zed Landing, which is mostly excellent. My one complaint is that I usually play solo and the second wave in Objective Zed Landing is a huge mass of crawlers. That's not a problem if I'm playing Commando, but a second-wave Support whose only weapon is the starting shotgun is extremely hosed.

In single-player objective mode, you gotta swap classes accordingly, it feels. Or just run berserker the whole time.

Speaking of, the Hemoclobber alt-fire is ridiculous in single-player- you can three-shot a Scrake or Fleshpound with it, and it contributes to the Berserker's already excellent survivability and health regen.

Been getting back into KF2 after a lot of months. Some of the new weapons are interesting; HRG shotgun pistols are what I always wanted (but aren't Gunslinger perk as well for some reason?), need more investigation with the Hemoclobber since I don't think it's any better than a rifle for Medic but is probably better for Zerk, and Seal Squeal is pretty fun but I'm not certain of its viability on 6-man Suicidal and HoE.

Seal Squeal is cute but it's not good even on Suicidal. The hemoclobber is nice on Berserker, though, because you can use the strong attack to give yourself a free heal.

I'm certain the new weapons will be made cross-perk eventually, there's not much sense in the shotgun revolvers being Support-exclusive.

Anyway, I don't know how long you haven't played for, but there's a few new weapons which are mainstays in my end-game loadout. The Sharpshooter has an M99 which instakills Fleshpounds, the Support has a quad boomstick which is basically his version of the M99, the Commando's FNFAL is great as a heavy killer, and Survivalist is actually worth using.

The Doomstick is fantastic. Still haven't got my Support up to where I can wield it alongside the auto shotgun, but ah well.

Sanitarium is a weird choice. It's openly supernatural, it really feels more suitable for a Halloween release than Christmas (especially given the last couple of Christmases brought us Shopping Spree, Krampus' Lair, and Santa's Workshop), and I feel like the atmosphere and storyline of it are kind of wasted when the game doesn't have like a unique boss fight for it- it's a lot of buildup to fighting something completely unrelated to the environment. That's kind of a silly complaint; this is still Killing Floor 2, after all. But it feels odd, and it especially feels odd not to have an Objective mode for it.

Do you mean in teams of realism? Because even in sci-fi setting, it's realistic that a railgun of that size and length wouldn't be stronger than an anti-material rifle like the M99.

Thread is dead as gently caress but I figured since the event's been out a week and a half I'd throw my thoughts in on it.

I was playing this game a lot last week because there was double XP and quad drops and I prestiged multiple classes; I thought it was event-long but it turns out it was only for the first week, which was really disappointing. They did have almost every item in the store half off at the same time though, so I bought Mrs Foster and some of the weapon bundles.

The new map Sanitarum is really big; maybe a little too much, and the Cthulu thing has been done to death at this point, but it's kind of a blend of Volter Manor and Infernal Realm with a couple other things so it's not too bad and a nice little callback/incorporation if you want to think of it that way.

The Matriarch is absolutely terrifying in open areas and when you first fight her unaware of what she can do. Her Tesla shock bounces to multiple players bunched up and her plasma cannon will eat through your entire armor and health in literally seconds. Fortunately, since she stops to fire so often ducking behind cover or around corners is the best way to fight her until her cannon breaks, then she becomes more manageable. I also swear she has a slightly lower spawn rate than the other bosses because it took forever to get the 10 kills.

The HRG Incision is... viable. It's pretty good, but I'm not sure about it on Medic. I was mostly using it on Survivalist and even with a 15% damage bonus it still took 3 headshots to kill a Scrake on 6-man Hard. The shock effect, if you're fast enough, can allow you to reload and fire and kill them before they have a chance to rage. The syringe dart recharges really fast and since it's accelerated it can headshot small enemies and knock down medium ones. Since it only weighs 8 though you can carry the Medic AR with it, so I'd say this one is a good weapon, it just doesn't fit my Medic playstyle.

The Winterbites are eh. I've never been a fan of the Flare Guns on Gunslinger so I didn't try these out too much. I know from patch notes that their freeze effect was nerfed against bigger enemies, but a lot of small poo poo just dies in one or two shots (headshot or bodyshot) before they can freeze anyways. It might be better on Level 25 Survivalist with the 200% incapacitation perk but I dunno.

As for the DLC weapons, since I tried them all out:

Rhino Pistols are a mixed bag. When you get them to work right they are fun as hell and destroy everything, even bosses. The fragmentations are hard to accurately gauge where they'll go, and if you try to ricochet them off the floor without hitting the enemy with the actual bullet you get no XP for kills. Plus it still takes a whole dual clip+ to take down FPs and Scrakes (so no more effective than landing your headshots with a .500/Eagle) you just don't have to aim. Still, I like to run them as a backup weapon for hordes and bosses, and they're only 550 so the same as a D.Eagle.

Ion Thruster is strong. I don't play Zerker a lot but it's a very good weapon, and the 100% attack obliterates pretty much everything. It costs 2000 dosh but since Zerker is usually able to save money up fast that's not a huge problem, and since it's 8 you can still run an upgraded Hemoclobber.

The Riot Shield and Glock is also insanely good. It's SWAT's heaviest weapon at 8 units, and it limits your field of view almost entirely when the shield is up and slows your turn speed, but the Glock itself is basically a Kriss with similar damage, firing speed, and mag size/ammo count, it just has greater spread so it's not as great for picking off enemies at long/medium range. Still, the 60% damage reduction when the shield is up makes SWAT an absolute tank against even most bosses, so I definitely like this one.

Mosin-Nagant was my biggest disappointment. It's not bad, not at all, it just doesn't fit my Sharpshooter playstyle. I've wanted a bolt-action rifle in KF for a long time, but the limited ammo (65 shots by default), small mag size (5), and slower chambering of the round compared to the lever-actions means I spend a lot more time reloading even with perks spec'd into speed. There's also the fact it's a mid-tier option to the M14 EBR as it weighs the same and costs the same, but it deals a lot more damage (slightly more than the crossbow, I think). That said you cannot run the Rail Gun with it and you sure as hell can't run the M99. It can be upgraded twice, but even then it can take a good three headshots to kill a FP. Its strengths though, are that with its bayonet you can kill small stuff with a single stab anywhere (and some medium enemies with a headstab) to conserve ammo and it can be used to parry/block. Mosin-Nagant is still a very good weapon I was just disappointed that it didn't click with me.

Yeah I was thinking about mentioning that I did 4 games with a couple friends last night and we got King Fleshpound and Hans twice, and every time my one friend kept hoping she'd get the Matriarch because she's never fought her.

There was also the fact that last week during the double xp I did a lot of Solo Endless and reached wave 60 once before I got tired of it and threw to restart and fought the Matriarch maybe 2 times out of 12.

Really what my friend said should've been what tripwire did: "Just make the Matriarch the boss of this map (Sanitarium) like they did for Santa's Workshop with him (Krampus/Abomination)."

They still do that but it's always the same Christmas skins every year; the past couple years they added Santa's Workshop and Krampus' Lair but this year we have Sanitarum which is more a Halloween-type map, especially with the whole Cthulu thing going on. This event also introduced The Matriarch but to tell you how much effort was put into the event she doesn't even have a holiday skin and the event reward for completing all challenges is just a weapon skin for a new set they introduced called Jager which isn't Christmas-themed at all. In fact, I don't think they've ever introduced any Christmas weapon skins, which is odd since they've done it for others.

Edit: This year is pretty lackluster but if it's your first event there's plenty to appreciate that's been added over the years including previous maps.

Double Edit: Now that the event is over it turns out she DID have a holiday skin but other than being pale-blue like ice and a couple other minor things like her visor having slits it sure didn't look like one in any sense of the word. I thought it was just because of cryogenics or some poo poo.

I've been grinding up Survivalist again which involves a lot of mix and matching weapons and it seems to me that Tripwire needs to revamp their weapon upgrade system.

Take the Winchester 1894; it's one of the best first-tier weapons in the game. It weighs 4, has a good ammo capacity, excellent damage, fire rate, etc. But now what if I want to upgrade it?

To upgrade it once takes 500 dosh, and now it weighs 5. It weighs the same as the Centerfire, but has more ammo and less damage and I only had to spend 500 instead of 650. If I want to upgrade it again it'll weigh 1 more than the Centerfire but I'll have spent 450 dosh more than outright buying that gun for comparable damage.

Similarly, the grenade pistol is pretty good now, but if I want to fully upgrade it to tier 4 it'll cost me 3300 dosh total and I'll have a pistol that weighs 8, when I could buy the RPG and M203 for that amount.

A couple weapons like the single 1858 revolver have delayed weight increases, so in my opinion what Tripwire should do is make it so the first 2 tiers have no weight increases, or barring that, lower the first two tiers of upgrades to 300 and 400 instead of 500 and 600. Upgrading anything below a tier 3 is almost pointless due to tier 1 and 2 weapons being outstripped in damage even with upgrades in most cases. If the system were more robust you could choose what aspects of a weapon to upgrade but the trade time limit would probably preclude that being viable.

Edit: Another example is Sharpshooter; I like to have the M99 but the only other weapons I can carry with that are the 1858 revolver or the .500 Magnum. Sure, the magnum costs more outright, but if I have the money why would I ever take an 1858 revolver for 100, upgrade it thrice for 1800 more dosh, and end up spending 1050 more for a weapon that does less damage still than the .500?
