Also pretend I had a good joke here about policing themselves when they're already the police. I know there's one in there somewhere.

WaPo getting in on NYT's editorial endorsement game: Washington Post: In a break from tradition, I am endorsing all 12 Democratic candidates quote:If there were ever a time to be open to ideas, it is now. But if there were ever a time to seal off our minds from ideas, lest they contaminate and confuse us, it is also now. If there were ever a time to have principles and state them, now is surely that time. But, then again, if there were ever a time to cast principles aside and choose a candidate for sheer pragmatism, now is also that time. quote:Yes, in an ideal world, I would only endorse a single candidate. But this election has made it all too clear that we do not live in an ideal world. Therefore, I am endorsing one candidate for each reality: one for what I have dubbed an ideal reality (Warren), one for a “pragmatic” reality (Klobuchar) and 10 others for slightly different versions of reality, in one of which America and Canada are a single entity, and in another one of which, everyone has crab claws for hands! (Pete Buttigieg, John Delaney.) Also, I am endorsing Donald Trump, in the reality where he is a completely different man whom everyone would describe as “very not-racist.”

Only 3 deaths so far out of ~200 cases. This of course assumes that the news China is releasing is accurate (it's probably not). New type of Coronavirus looks like it popped over from an animal into humans. Nothing about this one seems super doom worthy (yet) but could turn into a real killer like SARS that doesn't exactly reshape civilizations etc. e: Much worse this year is the regular influenza A. Bad year for it and it seems there's a couple strong strains circulating at the same time which is atypical meaning you could potentially get flu more than once during the season etc. Get your flu vaccines if you haven't. Flu season is only just ramping up and it'll probably last longer than usual this time.

My last flu shot was in 2006. Staying away from people is how I vaccinate myself, but yeah, if you deal with more people than your reflection on a daily basis you probably should get it. I think the news said this years' formula is better than last years', but the effective rate won't really be known until the end of the season. I think last years was somewhere in the teens in terms of effectiveness. E: last years shot was around 29% effective. CRUSTY MINGE fucked around with this message at 21:59 on Jan 20, 2020 |

Could have been that you got the high fever but symptoms abated faster. Flu can go >105F depending on the person / other health factors. I think the vaccine is still good for the predicted strain, but another strain has diverged and spread alongside it. I need to go back and read up more on it, I just saw a little blurb in some of the infectious diseases reporting stuff I follow.
