I love how in that bit where they're talking about how many images they'll need for a five minute short at 12 fps the scene suddenly becomes like two or three frames per second and demonstrates how to use the least possible animation.

reading some manga scans on :filez: type websites (funny thing is that the only chapters that have english scanlations are the ones that got covered in the eps that have aired so far), and this Anime is heavily on the "accurate" end of the adaption scale; each episode covers 2 ~20 page chapters for the most part and most of the outright differences are minor (like the most glaring post-chapter 1 difference is that they didn't include the train passengers thinking to themselves about how tall Kanamori is). probably the most changes are between chapter 1 (which was an extra long ~30 page chapter) and episode 1 (which only covered chapter 1) and even then it's not really extensive, just some stuff expanded on to fill time and the whole pre-intro scene from the ep)

Is the Slipknot fan in the manga too?

Moralists don't really *have* beliefs. Sometimes they stumble on one, like on a child's toy left on the carpet. The toy must be put away immediately. And the child reprimanded.

I hope the animators are having fun drawing an episode about how to cut corners to get a finished product. I wonder if this series is cathartic for Yuasa.

Really it doesn't matter which.order you approach his work, since he's covered a variety of different dramas. If you want otherworldly surreal you have Kaiba; A common starting point is The Tatami Galaxy, a story focused around college student's with some fast paced dialogue and lots of introspection. He's done horror anime like Devilman Crybaby and Kemenozume. He's done more Disney-esque films like Lu over the wall, and films more in line with his other works like The Night Is Short, Walk On Girl. He's also done Ping Pong a great sports show, and if you go way back he did the film Mind Game, a trippy experience.

The only thing I would say is you might want to watch NiSWoG after tatami galaxy since it takes place in the same world and there are lots of neat references in the film to the show, but it's hardly necessary.

Student Councils do have authority over clubs and student events and that includes distribution of funds. They do require the green light by the administration, but they do hold some power. They're akin to middle managers who do a lot of bureaucratic grunt work that's student oriented where the school admin is responsible for more important things like books and classes and stuff. the StuCo can't override the admin though.

I liked how Kanamori was talking about ways they could have done better right along with the other two.

She's the one who makes sure things get done, and she's in this for the money, but she's still got some passion for the art.

She is still doing it because polish has results but yeah, I like how they passively roped her into caring about the product. I also like that there are so many representations of production or other outside sources of influence that she does not fit. Like yeah there are infinite negative examples of bad influences on a production, anime and just any artistic work, but it's not as compelling as when there's a person who wants it to be good but also needs to figure out how to get it done.

I'm not sure they're ever going to get an uncompromised work really, since the show seems to be fairly pragmatic about production on the whole and anime is a team effort, which is always an exercise in compromise to some degree. They're certainly going to have more expansive and mind-blowing works and works that Mizusaki and Midori are more happy with, but I imagine there's always going to be some sort of compromise involved.

The actual show is using lot of the techniques they talked about in this episode in other scenes to show off how well they can blend in :ssh:

(For example, look at the train scene with the band aids and spot how many utterly filler pans there are)

I like the part where they're talking about cheap scenes that are just panning and lip flaps while the camera pans back and forth.

Keeping alert for that kind of thing is a lot of fun.

Decided to check this show out on a whim after seeing some of the OP parodies elsewhere and becoming curious.

Ened up falling in love, the gags and imagination spots are so much fun. I also love how subtly weird and imaginative the setting is, but without it becoming overbearing. I'd probably say the entire setting has an almost dreamlike quality to it, with how off kilter everything is.
