I don't think I've ever had a headphone jack break through wear and tear and I won't buy a phone without one just like I won't buy a phone without an SD card slot. I use BT headphones sometimes and wired some other times, theres no reason not to have both options avalable imo.

Guavanaut posted:The Northumbrian Centre For Excellence in Precision Geolocation, London. Turns out I had my northern universities slightly confused, Northumbria University is in fact across the road from the good pizza place, which is under Newcastle University (formerly the University of East Anglia), with Coventry University next door. The former University of Northumbria "campus" (actually a couple of floors in an 80s office block on the Isle of Dogs) is now the University of Sunderland, and their former campus is now the University of Cumbria. Meanwhile my former office - conveniently located for the Asda on the Isle of Dogs and nothing else - is no longer the University of Cardiff (who closed it amid controversy) but is instead the completely different University of Wales. I'm joking but this is the ridiculous reality of these satellite campuses that are basically visa/diploma mills for foreign students who want to say they went to uni in the City or Canary Wharf - a couple of floors in an office building and a loving bonanza for those "student living" companies (the University of Newcastle is in the bottom three floors of a ridiculous 32-storey block where you can get a single room with shared kitchen (one per *floor*) for the low, low price of 350 quid a week (400 if you want your own bathroom).

That's the thing though: 2004 was John Kerry, ie. your bogstandard neoliberal, against the man who bravely united the country after 9/11 and all that bullshit. Mark Blyth said John Kerry was 'what everyone in the Democratic Party thought everyone who was not a Democrat would like for President. Nobody actually voted for him because they were like, JOHN KERRY WHAT A GUY, they were like, we need to beat Bush, so who's someone that we think other people think would beat Bush?' That's why John Kerry lost, and that's why anyone who isn't Bernie will lose, because they're just another bunch of John Kerrys. Bernie is actually trying not to be a John Kerry, and he has a solid chance of pulling in Gary from Gary, Indiana who couldn't stand yet another John Kerry in the White House. I mean, you say you were being dumb, but they didn't have a Bernie in the race that year. We didn't have Obama showing us just how bad John Kerry would have been. We didn't know any better. Now we do. And no, I guarantee the #resistance will turn on the Dems in an instant if Bernie gets the nomination. Bloody numpties.

Basically this, but add commandeering ambulances to deliver old ladies to hospitals within an hour to Lowry's list of gombeen feats, according to one guy my dad knows (could be bollocks, but would explain his popularity). For Michael Healy-Rae, the roads in his very remote constituency are loving Autobahns compared to the shite I go through on my daily commute in Limerick, which could be ten minutes but is actually forty-to-fifty due to poo poo planning. A comparable constituency to MHR's (but ignored rather than lavished) would be Galway West, where the major road funneling tourists to Connemara is the most gorgeous death trap you'll ever drive. There's a section elsewhere where you straddle the Galway-Mayo border and you can visibly tell by the state of the road which county you are in lol.
