The plan was to allow the loving developer to slowly work on the demolition and it wasn't going to be imploded until loving December 2020.

I don't know if that's changed recently but New Orleanians are super pissed at city leadership. The body just laying out for all to see is only a vulgar reminder of how hosed up the city is.

Oh, also they're going to let the developer demolish 3 adjacent buildings that they'd wanted to demolish from the start but the city had blocked.

The city is still bending over backward for this developer that killed 3 workers and hosed up one of the city's big traffic arteries. One of the members of the family that owns the developer went to loving jail for defrauding the Road Home program that was supposed to help rebuild with FEMA funds after Katrina and they still let them have this huge project in the French Quarter. They demolished the site of the Woolworth's sit-ins for it.

It was like a plumber, an engineer, and a fast food worker or something. Which, yeah, I'm sure there's someone out there who could do two full time jobs + whatever hours at taco bell and if you dug you could find a guy, but it hardly leads credence in this era of photoshop.

quote:

CenturyLink and Frontier were among 10 ISPs that accepted funding in the FCC's 2015 Connect America Fund auction in exchange for promises to deploy Internet service with speeds of at least 10Mbps downstream and 1Mbps upstream. CenturyLink is receiving $505.7 million in annual support for six years to deploy service to 1,174,142 homes and businesses in 33 states.

Frontier was originally slated to receive $283.4 million annually for six years to bring access to 659,587 homes and businesses in 28 states. That was later expanded to 774,000 locations in 29 states. Frontier's entire footprint is 29 states, so it's receiving government funding in all of them.

The Connect America Fund, like the FCC's other universal-service programs, is paid for by Americans through fees on their phone bills.

As we wrote Monday, Frontier is reportedly planning to file for bankruptcy within two months.

I'm no expert in reading SEC documents, but according to this one:
https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/20520/000119312516525870/d110160ddef14a.htm

annual compensation for executives at Frontier totaled over $32 million in 2015.

For some strange reason they have to declare bankruptcy because they can't afford to pay their debts. :thunk:

Frontier's entire business model is to buy up unprofitable regions from Verizon and friends (like the region I live in lol) and then put in the least possible effort to maintain the system while cancelling all upgrades or rollouts.

They hosed over the transition here so bad they in all likelihood killed a bunch of old people by disconnecting their 911 service for like 2 solid weeks, so our very good and responsible state government sent them a strongly-worded letter telling them how very disappointed everyone is, and they promised to never do it again.
