I like how Pierce being too lazy to draw other people in the seats makes it look like Nate and Dee Dee are the only ones in the theater, and thus makes it more realistic.

I would be shocked if Rose Is Rose was able to spell a second pepper correctly. Jalapeño is probably all they can handle, and habanero is jalapeño but hotter so it's gotta have the ñ, right?

I only have excellent ideas
Barnaby (June 17-June 23, 1942)

The note of wartime patriotism that runs through early Barnaby isn't really unusual even for a card-carrying member of the Communist Party like Crockett Johnson or a magazine as left-leaning as PM. After all, there were capital F Fascists to fight, so stuff like the joke about Barnaby trying to enlist was absolutely the order of the day. The allusion to J. Edgar Hoover raised an eyebrow from me though. There's a ton of very interesting material out there about cartooning as an avenue for promoting civilian stuff like victory gardens and war bonds as well as just promoting optimism and good morale, and if I wasn't already doing three comics I'd post some of it.

It's Saturday, so once again I'm back at it translating Intet Nytt fra Hjemmefronten. We rejoin our heroes discussing the influx of tourists in their town.

It looks like the author sometimes does these mini-arcs. I'll read ahead and translate the whole arc in the future.

I'm actually working on a personal little project with John Allison's works and having access to these strips will be very helpful (I've downloaded them for my own use). By way of thanks here's a pic from Allison's instagram promoting the forthcoming Wicked Things comic.
