Adobe's Creative Cloud app can do fonts, not sure why font installation on iOS is a thing but every once in a while I get an annoying pop-up warning me that my font licenses have expired and I need to run the CC app to refresh them. Legit have no idea what could be using custom typefaces, I know of no apps that allow it.

I asked this in the iPhone thread a while back but never got a response, so I figured I'd ask here too: Does anyone have a recommended app or program for importing photos to a computer? I got a new laptop with Windows 10 about a year ago, but the basic Windows Photos app on there is pretty poo poo. It either tries to import every single photo from my iPhone 8, every time (Over 1000 photos and videos) when I connect my phone to the computer, or I have to do it manually, but it always gives me errors and randomly decides to not import certain pictures/videos for no apparent reason, or I get duplicates that it imported multiple times. I've never found a good workaround for this, nor any way to really fix the problem (Done the whole drivers, different wires, updates dance, all that poo poo with no change in the situation) Ideally, I'd like to find something free or fairly low cost (One-time purchase or cheap annual) that I can basically just use to transfer stuff from last X days/weeks/whatever over. I don't know if iCloud or Google Photos would work well, as I'd never tried either before since I live & work in an area with sometimes spotty cell service, and am used to just doing when connecting my phone to my computer to add/remove music and other stuff every few weeks. Any help, suggestions, or advice?

Can anyone recommend a data tracker for WiFi data that will tell me which apps are sucking all my data? I’m using 100gb a day on my iPad and have no earthly idea why.

Because my xfinity is hitting the data cap to the tune of another 500gb over the month and the xFi app is showing majority coming from the iPad. It possible Comcast is just loving with me.

Note, I wasn't over my miserable It's entirely possible it wasn't a deliberate sales technique, but they responded REALLY quickly to my FCC complaint. God, I'm glad I have three (3) options for internet in my building (though one is Verizon DSL, barely counts), so Comcast doesn't try to gently caress with caps, though they're still a bit more expensive than my actual ISP.

I wrote mb, it's actually 300gb. They increased it to 1tb and now you can pay an extra $15 to $20 to get unlimited. Still, even with 300gb we could burn through our monthly data cap in 3 days with 5 people streaming stuff. I hate Comcast so much and I hate the fact their XiFi (which is required to get unlimited bandwidth) is the best wireless AP I've ever used. My old Unifi mesh is blown away by a single unit. Right, so minor update. I downloaded My Data Mgr on my iPad and while it did show 700mb of unknown app data usage, the total amount of data I was using was totally within reason, maybe 1.5gb in a few hours of streaming video, surfing bla bla. So it wasn't the iPad as far as I can tell. Now, the crazy data usage had been going for a few days. Like literally, I could watch my xfinity account's data usage tick up by 5-10gb PER HOUR. At first I was thinking it was one of the iOS devices getting crazy with background refreshes. Then I updated all my apps to use low data mode or not auto play videos, anything I could find. Then I thought, maybe my gaming PC caught a virus so I disabled it from network and powered down. Thought it was my extender. I went through the entire xFi app device by device, and the only device that were using heavy data were the iPad and the Gaming PC. Ok fine. Disabling one or the other had no effect on data usage. I could still watch the data tick up. So, the one thing that has caused the data usage to slow, almost stop, like almost immediately was updating the password on my xfinity account and enabling MFA. It's been a few hours since I made that change and :knock on wood: the data has remained quite stable. So yeah, the working theory is maybe my xfinity account was compromised and someone was using the hotspot to DL torrents or something? My googling indicates that this scenario SHOULDNT count toward data usage but who knows. Or, Comcast is just loving with me. Either way, I'm going to reset the WiFi pw and reset all my devices which is long overdue. But yeah. loving weird. FWIW I have the xFi AP which has worked great for years.

Can anyone recommend a photo album app that lets you display descriptions/text for photos as you scroll through? Ideally I want some kind of main menu showing all the albums I make, and then when you open one, it looks something like Instagram -- it displays the photo/video at the top, with room for text at the bottom, and you can swipe through the pics in the album and see the new text for each one. I don't want it online, I just want it on my phone so I can organize my vacation pics. Is there anything like that out there? I see a ton of different ways of viewing pics, but nothing that stores text with them in that way. Thx for any help.

Mobile app developers are hilariously greedy with their subscriptions. That poo poo should be like $1 a month tops. I wonder if there's some rule of thumb where they all know they will instantly lose 90% of their install base when moving to a subscription model, and they set the monthly rate at a point where the remaining users will keep them profitable.

bleh, looks like all the poo poo I already paid for still works, and the ridiculous subscription fee doesn't add anything I really care about, though if they're making things like "custom event colors" and "time zones" premium features its days are probably numbered e: if you add an event there's a color button that nags you for money Clark Nova fucked around with this message at 18:38 on Jan 29, 2020 |

I'm not sure this is the right thread but it's been pissing me off so I'm going to ask anyway. Why do all the pictures my fiance sends via the Facebook Messenger app end up at 1024x768? There doesn't appear to be any options in settings to change that behaviour (there is an 'Upload in HD' option in the main Facebook app but that doesn't have any effect on Messenger) and an internet search says it should automatically send in high(er) resolution. Her phone is an XR, mine is Android but I think it's a sending problem because they are still low res if I check them on a PC

it’s $5/mo or $40/year for a single subscription to the app on every platform, just to be clear that doesnt mean it is a good value, but it’s not $5/month for just the iOS app

Is there an app that saves your current iphone settings so I can view later? I’m having Bluetooth issues with my headphones and it was suggested that I do a full settings reset but I don’t want to forget what my settings are later. I’ve done the network settings reset already and that didn’t help unfortunately.

They’ve also added a bunch of server stuff so you aren’t tied to iCloud any more and better integration with other calendar services. It also has stuff for scheduling meetings, etc. not super useful to normal people but probably nice for business people. That’s probably their goal like 1Password is doing: make more money from business customers. I try to mentally balance subscription prices with how back in the day you used to go to CompUSA and buy a boxed piece of software for $40. And that didn’t include updates and new features and bug fixes. “Do I use this everyday and does it make my life better? Is it worth $0.13 a day to use?”

So in order to invite people to your events, you need to give them access to your calendar accounts just like how Spark does it. Even though the app asks for Contacts permission ie it has access to your contacts, it is still not possible to invite people to your events without logging into your accounts on their servers. What the hell. (I owned 2, so I’m grandfathered in if it matters.)
