Scooter_McCabe posted:Trump removed from office in a manner that allows the GOP to claim it was the "deep state" and Democrats promises to keep his base around for years with something to "avenge." It also preserves their control of the senate rather than probably losing it for shielding Trump. Even Mitch McConnell understands what happens if they shield Trump and he loses the election. It means a shift in power and the end of his career, it also means a pissed of Democratic party with the ability ram as many laws as possible through with the time they have. The last time we had this we got a Heritage Foundation health plan.

Now we have this poo poo show

So is there a reason beyond, hey I have a book coming out, that Bolton's manuscript went to the white house at this moment in the trial? I mean I understand he's a ghoul, but I was also pretty sure he was a party (as in Repub) mainstay that never wavered? Did Trump sour him this badly that he wants to sink president deals?

Apparently they've had the manuscript for 6 weeks. I guess he wants to blow up Mr. Deals.

Standard practice for anyone with security clearance, supposedly. They look over it and give the 'no classified information in here' approval.

Bolton is basically the opposite kind of ghoul from the McConnell's of the world in that he's an ideological zealot, not a partisan one. He just happens to have the most fellow war lovers in the GOP at the moment.

Yeah, if hard evidence is ever brought to light confirming this, there is an absolute need to impeach Trump on using assassination as a quid-pro-quo to prevent his former Secretary of Defense from standing as a witness. That’s arguably worse than withholding aid.

As much as I'd like you to be correct, I really don't think you should set yourself up for disappointment like this. The republicans are not under any circumstances going to remove Trump. It literally doesn't matter what we see or hear. All this will just make it worse for them electorally after they acquit Trump but save yourself the anguish and don't let yourself hope that republicans will do anything approaching the right thing, ever.

On the one hand, yeah maybe you're right. On the other hand: imagine that they continue handling everything in literally the worst way possible and Trump sabotages his own defense even more and we get another damaging leak or two. Because that's entirely more likely than the best or even not-bad case scenario for Trump rn

Trump always bragging about getting high ratings and tons of viewers is pretty funny when it's become apparent that his Obvious Crimes are causing it and will most likely lead to him getting removed. Or at least burn a thousand bridges down. It's not enough for Trump to get removed, we need this to a treatise on how the GOP operates and that they must be voted out in every election.
