Had an OSHA-like experience at work today. Our old-as-gently caress built in the 50's paint manufacturing plant-turned-office building has been getting its A/C units replaced on the roof, which are being airlifted by helicopter on the weekends. Some of my coworkers came to work today to find their desks on the 2nd floor surrounded in caution tape. Apparently the new units were too heavy and caused this part of the roof beam to bow, which you could slightly see in the suspended ceiling tiles next to it. No one left an explanation for this or anything, we had to ask around.

Also this building is just two stories but also has no elevators, so to get furniture and stuff to the second floor they use a forklift. It's a little silly.

My mom had a car totaled when someone did that to her.

it's safe to assume that any internet-facing camera has and is actively being exploited and monitored by the american intelligence service. if that count isn't also including "smart speakers" it should, because they are also listening and recording everything 24/7.

I sucked a dick for bus fare and then I walked home.

Waaaaaaay back in the early days of the forums there was an entire thread dedicated to finding and watching unsecured webcams.

We briefly made some random (German?) office worker internet famous.

Edit: this was before ubiquitous home cameras so it was like 90% nature cams and 10% offices

Didn't we end up freaking out some random lady cause like 400 people were looking at her kid through the baby cam? Iirc she ended up just throwing a towel over it instead of just unplugging it.

Double Robotics used to let anyone log into their beta ipad-on-a-segway thing at night to test drive it around a closed office. Like anyone on the internet, totally open login. I spent three weeks logging in every night and knocking it over as soon as I could. It was great watching the furniture and potted plants slowly disappear from the room as they tried to remove tripping hazards. They even ended up installing rudimentary collision detection that would slow the thing down when it detected an object near the wheels.

One night I got bored and repeatedly ran it screen-first into a door handle over and over until some lady who was working late barged in and yelled "what the hell do you think you're doing?!?!". So of course, I then used Manycam to stream meatspin to the iPad screen.

I think I saw a video on the YouTube where someone managed to wedge it under the door and get it to open, releasing the thing into their main office in the dead of night. When it got to the stairs leading down to the first floor I shuddered with glee, but the coward turned around and drove it back to the office. For shame.
