there's been a couple of conflicting reports. i was listening to virology talk or w/e it was with the Baric lab and someone mentioned that they heard that there's two novel strains now, but WHO appears to be saying that they haven't seen any major mutations.

i guess we'll find out!

CDC today said all the ones we've got in the US are the same as what China provided last week. Not a confirmation but seemed to imply no mutations so far since they didn't mention anything else about it.

critical/serious is likely pneumonia. you will struggle to breath, constantly coughing up mucus, sharp chest pains, severe fever. if you get this at the height of the outbreak, you might be in a hospital hallway if youre lucky or an outdoor tent receiving bare minimum treatment if any at all. it will not be fun, even if you dont die.

serious/critical is kinda-sorta eyeballed as "admitted" / "intubated"

serious will be showing acute respiratory symptoms, so, pneumonia, and critical will be serious enough that your life is in danger.

to be clear there's a line there too

my wife had CAP last year. I've had CAP and it can be an outpatient experience with a somewhat questionable dose of cortisol based steriods and antibiotics.

typically when pneumonia gets to the level of admission your mortality rate is sneaking towards 1/10
