Probably but corona viruses can still gently caress you up

Sushi The Kid posted:

Back in December of 2013 I had a form of the Coronavirus, may have been MERS-CoV. I felt like I just had a cold about the first 5-7 days, then I just really felt bad. I worked for a couple days, came home and hit the bed. On like day 3 of bed rest, I could feel the life leaving me. Told my WIFE "Ok, let's go to the hospital". I was there about 20 minutes, when the doctor said, we don't have the equipment of the staff to treat you here. We have a ambulance standing by, you are going straight to the University hospital.

The hospital ride was quiet and calm. The two ambulance workers didn't say a word to me, didn't get in the back with me, didn't even look at me. Last thing I remember was a nurse/doctor saying "Sushi, we are going to have to incubate you ok?" Sure sure whatever. I woke up 14 days later to my wife saying "cough baby" and the nurse pulling the tubes out of my lungs.

Best vacation ever. Got some much needed rest, even lost a couple of pounds and I had sparkling clean lungs again!

Only downside was that my Sp02 went down to brain damaging levels, and some of my organs started shutting down and I flat lined like twice. I can't remember anything from 2013 at all except going in and coming out of the hospital. A good chunk of 2014 is a blur, I sometimes can't remember people I see every day names right at first. Takes a couple of minutes.

So yeah, coronavirus isn't nothing to gently caress wit.

The thing is you don't want to catch it during the peak. I don't know how many ICUs there are in your country but I doubt it's even enough to handle 1% of the population getting infected at once with even 3% - 10% needing ICU and ventilator care. america has 20 ICUs per 100,000 people, if 1% catch it that's 1,000, and its seeming like rates for serious/critical conditions is 10% of cases so still 100-150 people per 20 units, ain't gunna work, people are gunna have to go untreated and die. that's the thing, yeah you'd otherwise be fine getting it right now because they could probably keep you alive if complications do occur, but not when everyone needs it at once.

robots with AI are considered 'human' in movies and such, or at least not "inhuman" enough to be easily killed on screen without tear jerking music and stuff.
We are flesh computers that can think for themselves so ergo we have soul and should be saved in a hollywood drama. That's personhood alright

no not according to what i said at all. parasites can wriggle around looking for a host. they probably get a little nutrition where they can on the way. a virus doesnt do anything

1. Don't eat bat or food from where bats poo poo
2. Don't chase chickens
3. Wash your god drat hands.
4. Avoid Countries where food is not eaten with a fork or spoon.

There are some parasites that can't get nutrition along the way. They must have a host. And are you saying viruses can't move?

it doesnt matter if a parasite requires a specific host. they have function
no a virus cannot move itself. viruses are incapable of that. they are basically inert until they haphazardly encounter the right conditions to inject their genetic info

Just think about it. How many murderous rollerbladers have you heard of? NONE. But murderous ice skaters? Why, they're a dime a dozen! You can take the ice skate off the ice skater, but you can't take the ice skate off their icy soul.

Asymptomatic contagion

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-01-29/10-year-old-boy-raises-fears-wuhan-virus-could-spread-undetected

quote:

The 10-year-old boy’s lungs were also scanned “on the insistence by the nervous parents” and showed signs of infection, which was confirmed by swabs of the back of his nose and throat. That meant he was capable of transmitting the virus even though the kind of tests used in airport screening for the virus would not identify him as a carrier.

Or if the ICU is full then you'll be dead

Actually I haven't seen an update on how often the infected need ICU care but last I read it was close to 50%. That was based on early numbers from China though so who the hell knows
