Inevitably I just see that it was just a huge earthquake or a virus outbreak and just go get some breakfast.

Kharnifex posted:Bystander syndrome has spread to Australia, Our Enlightened government of cut rate nazis has worked out a deal with China to fly Australian citizens home. The catch is that they will be quarantined for several weeks on one of our offshore concentration camps. The second catch is that they will have to pay for the privilege of being quarantined on a hellhole so terrible that the children interred there, some as young as six, self-harm and have suicidal ideations. And I'm sure the idea that all those inconvenient refugees might catch the coronavirus and die from the near total lack of medical care on the island has never entered our politicians' heads. EDIT: Sorry, to make a correction - the youngest child interred on the island is four and was born in the detention centre. Megillah Gorilla fucked around with this message at 04:28 on Jan 30, 2020 |

There would be signs posted in Thai and English saying things like, "Stand here for boats going north/south," and then next to them were signs in Chinese that said, "Stop throwing your trash in the river." CIGNX posted:It started as a Cantonese thing that is sort of spreading into Mandarin in southern China. People used to refer to younger women professionally as 小姐 or "young lady", but that term become more and more associated with prostitutes. People in rural Guangdong started using 靓女 or "pretty girl" as a substitute, and then it spread into mainstream Cantonese. I haven't heard it much from people in northern China, but I haven't been back there in a while, so who knows now. 小姐 is still the default in Taiwan and I don't think I ever heard 美女. 妹妹 was somewhat common as a nickname or name of affection for little girls (like parent to daughter).

A couple of goons lived above one in Taipei for awhile and they (the brothel, not the goons) made meth in the basement so there were regularly fires and police raids. They have since moved out of the building.

Though there are plenty of prostitutes associated with hotels of course, but there's nothing implied by the name other than hotel.

This is correct. First night staying in a hotel I received three calls from hotel employees of increasingly better English skills. 9:00pm - "Herroror you wa. . . . amowouh . . . nigah. . ." <dial tone> 10:30pm - "Hello, alone. . . help . . . nigah . . . help?" <dial tone> 11:00pm - "Hello, you need massage from pretty girl? Me: "No thanks, I am trying to sleep." 12:00pm - <phone rings> <unplugs phone>
