Apply anyway, personal experience and plenty of recruiters have told me that even if it says you must have experience with a particular piece of software, if you are experienced with something similar you should get a look in.

A load of this stuff is just a wish-list 'have a punt' from HR. When I've been recruiting before I've found when I write something like 'experienced in x' or 'expert in y' this gets translated to something like 'experienced = 3 years, expert = 5' meaning that without my knowledge, HR once managed to put a spec out which required more years of experience in a piece of software than the software had existed for.

Red Oktober posted:A load of this stuff is just a wish-list 'have a punt' from HR. HR are clueless about anything remotely techy. I needed people who were good at MS Access as in importing data, error trapping, creating tables, queries including with calculations, who understood the various 1-1, 1-many etc type queries. HR sifted out all those applicants and included those with flashy CVs who knew how to use an MS Access form created by someone else but who couldn't tell the difference between an 0 and an O, so I created a test of a small set of excel files, a basic database and a list of various specific tasks I expected the applicants to be able to do. It was great, lots of people dropped out of the interviews in advance and a couple of really good people came through. HR: "But what if they only learned how to do it for the interview?" Me: "So what? They've learned how to do it - not on my time - and if they don't get the job, they've learned something useful"

House prices: There's an interesting article in the Heil money pages on house prices over 174 years . Title for those who wish to read it is: "What happened to house prices over the past 174 years - and why did they once spend 70 years getting cheaper?" It considers number of houses, sizes of houses, incomes, interest rates. Graph lifted from the article below Conclusion: quote:On the basis that we probably can’t double the housing stock and don’t want much smaller homes, avoiding money getting much cheaper while trying to get wages up looks like Britain’s best hope.

Guavanaut posted:It's an interesting bind, because while child abuse images present a form of harm by their circulation, the squads assembled to tackle them always end up exceeding their remit and trying to become moral guardians of what is and is not obscene, which then usually ends up targeting queer and marginalized groups. The Met at that point in time were categorizing gay hookup newsgroups alongside child abuse newsgroups because something something cottaging is also obscene and illegal. Given that LM was also campaigning against the idea of children having rights I think it's most likely that Frank Furedi is just a massive nonce

Yeah, the other problem is that campaigning against that sort of censorship puts you on the same side of the debate as the "but what if the child consents?" lot. But I guess that's no different to PIE and NAMBLA pitching themselves as being on the side of gay lib, and how that reinforced a bunch of homophobic stereotypes about pederasty. The only way to avoid that is to be openly anti-noncing as well as anti-censorship and pro-queer.

This kind of thing happens so much I can only start to attribute it to malice, not incompetence. It happens with child abuse, with spousal abuse, with sex workers, with trans kids, with mental health issues, eating disorders, etc etc etc. Every time someone sets up a filter or a firewall or an algorithm to hide abuse/enabling content, it ALWAYS ends up rounding up survivors and support groups into the bargain.

Happens with social media blanket bans on 'hate symbols' too. "Hey I'm HistoryGuy and here's some information proving the Holocaust happened and how it was orchestrated." pretty much has to have swastikas and totenkopfe in it somewhere, whereas "I'm OdinNation18 and I'm going to tell you about the (((Marxist intellectual banker lizards))) that control the world through Zionism while standing in front of a German Post Office flag from 1933" gets a pass because it requires some (not much) degree of awareness to parse.

this country is a grey, miserable hole full of grumpy, miserable cunts who can't imagine better and would rather have worse than be proved wrong. the most emotion you can see from your average rear end in a top hat on the streets is barely disguised horror and disgust from old fuckers with one foot in the grave, swanning about looking like they're afraid of their own farts. go outside and try and find a happy person. you can't, happy people have to stay inside or their fleeting joy would be crushed out of them by the sea of miserable frowns. all races, all genders, all religions, all anything, just loving miserable. the only people laughing are the Tories, cause these miserable fuckers put them there to make their lives worse. gently caress britain. if I could push a button and plunge this utter waste of arable land into the center of the earth and raise every other country on the planet one inch away from the steadily rising sea levels I'd do it so fast you'd all be saying your goodbyes halfway through the mantle
