Our new offices are lovely for birdwatching, but I still carry the camera every day for during my breaks. There are a bunch of them that swoop off of the building and careen down at impossible to follow speed before about turning and zooming back out of sight. It presents difficulty in identifying them in the first place as they appear from nowhere, and then trying to get some shot of them that isn't miles behind or ahead or even having them in frame at all. This was my first actual successful shot of one, which is mightily pleasing for me: Shot with an xpro2 and 50-140 at 140mm.

InternetJunky posted:Thanks for the link. Just to be sure I didn't miss anything, there's no "download all" option here, right? I would love to have this entire collection. If you look at the bottom it's 33 pages of albums so it would be several hundred terabytes of info - I didn't see that at first and was making my way through each one very slowly using the high-res instructions to save photos I lilked. I'm going to make some prints actually today on some lovely hahnemulle photo rag. Can't wait!

The only problem is although they provide high res downloads they're overcompressed jpeg2000s files and you can see compression artifacts. I have a inkjet print of a bird painting by John Gould that I sourced from them and which hangs framed in my hallway. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Gould

I've moved to a more quiet, rural-ish seaside suburb that has a lot more bird life. Not used to getting woken up by morning bird calls instead of police sirens. Refreshing. Anyway, here is a bush stone-curlew that I found on my street trying it on with a Buddha statue. I think this is a territorial display or mating dance? Either way, that statue is going to cop it. And they make this call, usually at the same time every night, just as I drift off to sleep: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZWHUU41gsk

I remember seeing those flying around during the day when I was in Venezuela a million years ago. Unfortunately my only photos were with my crummy Tamron 70-300 MF macro lens. One of these days I'll have to dig through my old slides.

My wife actually likes the other crow one even more than the golden one, but I'm really happy with both. Lesson: early morning light is worth getting up for, sometimes at least. Here's a mid-day quail from the same day Pt Reyes Quail fs-6947 on Flickr And a bonus was, after an f-ed up file import that had me panicking, I finally figured out that my card reader is probably what's responsible. I had bought another one and it seems to be working, and not only that, I was able to grab owl photos off another card from November that I thought might be lost. I was actually contemplating taking this card to my local camera store and shelling out to get the files recover but they were there the whole time! Wildcat November Owl vert-3142 on Flickr

So I've hired a lens for week taken a week off work at the end of this month, largely to go to a specific hide and take a specific photo. Someone just burned the hide down. Just need a place to vent.
