What I want to know is what the assistant to the deputy minister of middle class prosperity does?

Surprised they made a minister of middle class before they made a minister of appeasing angry boomers but I guess they figure the CPC has the market cornered on their votes.

I will expect you to work with your colleagues and through established legislative, regulatory and Cabinet processes to deliver on your top priorities. In particular, you will:

  • Lead work within the Department of Finance, with the support of the Minister of Families, Children and Social Development and the Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry as the Minister responsible for Statistics Canada, to better incorporate quality of life measurements into government decision-making and budgeting, drawing on lessons from other jurisdictions such as New Zealand and Scotland.

  • Work with the Minister of Finance to ensure that the Department of Finance has the analytical and advisory capabilities that it needs to support and measure the impact of an economic agenda focused on growing the middle class and those people working hard to join it. This includes deeper integration with household and firm analyses conducted by Employment and Social Development Canada and Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada.

  • Lead international work, with support from the Minister of Finance and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, to advance the global imperative of growth that works for everyone. This includes engaging directly with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development in its Inclusive Growth Project and ensuring that Canada advocates and builds frameworks to advance this imperative on the world stage, particularly within the G7 and G20. Your work should build on the Charlevoix Commitment on Equality and Economic Growth.

  • Work directly with the Minister of Finance in the preparation of Budgets and Fall Economic Statements, drawing on your experience as one of the leaders in our platform process and working with the Government Caucus, Opposition Members and the increasingly non-partisan Senate, as well as outside experts and stakeholders. You will also engage directly with Canadians through town halls and other means to gather input into the budgetary process.

  • Support the Minister of Finance in the Cabinet Committee process, ensuring that the Government’s overall economic and fiscal plan is built into Cabinet decision-making, guided by the four principles for the implementation of our fiscal plan.

  • Support the Minister of Finance in his reviews of government spending and tax expenditures and in ensuring that these processes provide a transparent and public reporting to Canadians of the results and analyses.

  • Support the Minister of Finance in completing implementation of the new financial consumer protection framework, as well as in examining ways of bolstering financial consumer literacy. Support the Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry in developing enhanced consumer protections, including the creation of a new Canadian Consumer Advocate.

So uh roughly, no.

Although by doing so they've probably lost the disaffected vaguely eco-conscious Liberal vote who will return to the fold as the Greens compete harder against the NDP, handing the next BC election to the Liberals who, one must remind everyone, *barely* lost despite governing for fifteen plus years and botching most everything.

Given the history of ineptitude behind police forces in Canada, probably not. They’re malicious but I think their maliciousness is outdone by ineptitude, they couldn’t plan something like this out

I could see it being purposeful to get political capital for loving over sex workers as much as possible in the name of pretending to help them.

It's less likely than complete and utter incompetence though.

As much as I like roasting a pig, the police have nothing to do with this. As the article hints at, the case workers at the Quebec division of the Parole Board were inexperienced, apparently because they were all replaced (just about after the liberals took over, iirc, but don't take my word on this) except for two of them. "Junior" parole board advisors are not supposed to handle cases unattended without a mentor, but because there were only two left with experience, that's precisely what happened.

Now, the real question is what happened that they'd decide to replace 14/16 parole board members in one swoop, and where the poo poo did they find these clownshoes that not only failed to recognise this guy as a high risk recidivist but also thought it'd be a good idea to actively facilitate breaking the law by use of sex workers.

That's what the inquiry will find out, hopefully, but what the Christ. :psyduck:
