I saw Aliens before I saw Alien. Had I seen them in order I probably would have been more terrified by Alien since I had to have been like 9 for Aliens. I kinda wish when I rewatch that I could relive the edge of my seat of seeing Alien for the first time even though I was 13 for that one.

When my mom was dating the guy who would end up being my step-father, I was about 7 or so. He had not only cable, but HBO --- wow! He invited us all over to watch Alien when it first aired on HBO. It didn't really faze me, iirc correctly. I don't think I had nightmares or anything. Now, the babysitter that let us watch Poltergeist when that came out a few years later, that hosed me up hardcore. I blame that film for making me freaked out about clowns and trees moving outside the window and sleeping with a nightlight on. So, I wouldn't worry, except mind the walrus posted:I post on the SomethingAwful Forums in 2020 how the gently caress do you think it turned out

I watched RoboCop with my parents at age 7. It contributed to it being my favorite movie, because as I grew up with it I keyed on to the layered themes. First the action packed cyborg heroics, then the themes of alienation and search for self, then the preacient social satire. My dad (RIP) would always say "squint one eye" at titty scenes. He was ahead of his time in the sense that he realized back in the day it was hosed up showing two people loving each other's bodies was x-rated filth but showing them violently destroying each other's bodies was PG-13/R Rated Normal Entertainment.

Said before on forums here, my and my brothers grew up on the video nasty store that was opposite our house. They had action/horror/pornos, and the only ones they wouldn't give is the porno. So we got to saw Evil Dead, Deadly Spawn, and a poo poo load of other movies. Aliens was scary but not as much as some others. We saw Robocop with my uncle babysitting us. When the acid tank guy appeared, uncle wanted to turn it off thinking it wasn't right for us. We wanted to rewind to watch it again.

The delivery on ahhHHH DON'T TOUCH ME MAN combined with the horror on his face, the awesome practical effect, and the mallet to a pizza pop ending just I love Robocop so much.

If watching Steve Irwin has taught me anything, it's that that is the safest way to pick up a dangerous animal. Crikey! Look that this bugger! *picks up xeno by the tail* Isn't he a beaaauuuuuty! *inner jaw snaps at face* Not that little mouth inside it's big mouth, that can punch through a human skull in one bite!! *xeno impotently swipes with claws, just out of reach* Look at those claws! They're razor sharp. You don't want those bad boys to get ahold of you. *xeno hisses in frustration* Now, normally these Xenomorphs live in a hive like community so it's safe to say that there's more of these babies creepy crawling around here somewhere, so we're going to let this one go an move on. *gently lowers xeno back into the water where it, completely confused by what just happened, tentatively swims off* Jay_Zombie fucked around with this message at 19:38 on Jan 31, 2020 |

Dad is a sci-fi action fan, so he took me to see Alien 3 and Terminator 2 in theatres, when I was a wee lad. Was awesome. What really screwed me up movie-wise, was my grandmother. She owned a farm way out in the middle of nowhere, and she was a big fan of horror movies. If my parents were going on a trip, they would drop off my older sister and I there. So we'd all be watching gory horror movies all night, and my grandmother would pause the movie and go "what was that?" Cue going around the old farmhouse, shining flashlights out the windows into the pitch black. Thanks Nana, I don't think it traumatized me too badly.

I saw Aliens for the first time when I was like 9 or 10, as part of a cavalcade of movies (Alien/s, 3, Resurrection, both Terminators, Predator 1 and 2) that my father let me watch to get back at my mother for refusing to let me stay up late and watch Judge Dredd lol
