I love roadmap discussion. They've successfully transferred public scrutiny from game development to a chart that talks about game development, because a chart is the only thing they can actually release. And the backers immediately and fully embrace each item on the chart as real and true.

They need to scrap the roadmaps excel tables and transfer all activity tracking to Sure, it will take another half of year (of all workers so no actual dev progress will be made during the transition period) to transfer ALL THESE UPCOMING FEATURES to the aforementioned service and also a small payment of just 5 million dollars but it will speed up the delivery twice! They seemed to have sort of the same vagueness there that a lot of those games do. A kind of "Please only focus on the positive consequences of including this, we'll use mod tools to get rid of the negative ones!!". Game still looks rad though and is likely actually a game. That will release.

You know, this game really could have been the best drat space sim ever. It had the budget, I remember it having the talent with big dev names both technical and managerial, it had the hype. But they managed to piss away all these advantages leaving... what exactly? Their dev team is likely both severely undermanned and without the necessary skills, so they'll deliver at most a mediocre product. Welp, at least it's been entertaining.

Spreading the hype I'm the exact opposite if this, I'm concierge and anyone who brings it up I temper their expectations and tell them to hold off for now. And only when they bring it up, after the first and only time I attempted to get a friend in to try and it was a complete and utter catastrophe. All my friends refuse to try it out cuz most of them are against early access games. And then one time I eventually convinced a single friend to finally come in on a free weekend.m, and we got jack poo poo done. Couldn’t find each other for 30 minutes, disconnected 5 times, as soon as he spawned he’d fall through the planet, then spawn somewhere else entirely. We finally got into a ship, I landed in Hurston, and working 5 seconds of landing the game told me my ship was in the way and was going to be automatically stored, but my friend didn’t know and didn’t run off in time, so as I got off he was teleported you god knows where, and after another hour of us trying to get to each other, along with 2 more crashes, he tells me how this game isn’t really for him, and I lose my only friend that was willing to try after 5 years of begging pretty much. I’m not even gonna install it again for 3.9 or 4.0, cuz I know how much of a massive letdown they will be again. Just like 3.0, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4, 3.5, 3.6, 3.7, and 3.8. Every single one was a letdown with every major feature pushed back. They shouldn’t do 4 releases a year, but maybe 1-2, since they actually cannot do things properly with their current schedule and timeline Do you tell them all the bugs and setbacks the game is riddled with? Or do you just tell them about "the great vision"? I tell them that they have implemented gigantic planets and highly detailed ships, and that I actually cried when I couldnt find my warm ship in a snowstorm on microtech when I was playing drunk once. Most don't want to join anyways, dont have the hardware for it, and in my age only few like spacesims (so far) (I'm 23). So you didn't tell them how terrible of an experience it is to actually sit down and try to play it?

Star Citizen Live: Theatres Of War CitizenCon Followup https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3MzfiZgYmI IMO this better not come out pre-4.0, as we really REALLY need the server -> client network refactor before FPS combat feels good. The 250ms fixed delay (plus ping) and tons of desync issues makes SM no fun atm. EDIT: They address this point exactly at 29 minutes. The TLDR is it will suck as much as Star Marine because it's the exact same system, however since they're building this now it will sort of bring these kinds of bugs to the surface more and force them to fix it. I'm skeptical, because that was the entire point of Star Marine. But I'm hopeful it works out because a true, tight "FPS" feel on a game this massive would be incredible. EDIT2: The delay is "up to 500ms delay" and it was added in 2.0 and never meant to be permanent... holy crap! EDIT3: 3.0 reduced this delay to 250ms. EDIT4: The new "rewind time" is dynamic and can scale down to basically nothing if needed. "AC will feel better, PU will feel better, SM will feel better. It's Not COMPLETELY done, its not super fine tuned but we've already put this stuff in so the next release (3.9) will have all this. Also not in the main branch, but when theatres goes out this will go out" So wait, they're planning to implement rollback style netcode? The type they've been using in fighting games? If so, that could be pretty impressive then. Or pretty terrible. I think it really all depends on how much delay there is. Prediction in games in general has gotten pretty good, but games with rollback netcode live and die by how good it is. If it's not a huge focus after the initial release, I worry. Have you played star Marie? Because those aren't issues you have to worry about in star marine, and considering that TOW is supposed to be in star marine and not the PTU I think it'll be fine Yes, and as someone with a very low ping it is INFURIATING. High-ping players are at a major advantage in SM with the current network infrastructure. I can go in depth as to why if you're interested, but the refactor plans to do two things: -No more +250ms sync period -Server authoritative position data so that people with poor connections have poor experiences (aka get warped back to their real location) instead of being way harder to kill.

AP posted:What's happened in the last two years? AP!!!!!!!!!!!! Longtimenosee! The last two years, compared to the glories of 2014-2017, have been a bit of a bore. If you haven’t seen Bootcha’s ongoing series, it’s glorious, goonish and surely infuriating to Chris, who surely wishes Ben had never introduced Bootcha to him. (I’ve put out some videos, too.) Derek, alas, has mostly moved on. If disaster eventually befalls this project, he’ll surely re-activate for the victory lap. CIG sold 10% of its stock to a billionaire recluse (Clive Calder) in the Caymans. Ostensibly, that money is for Squadron 42’s marketing budget, which supposedly is hitting Beta by Summer. (Chris is burning the money instead, as usual.) A most interesting development is the vanishing of Sandi at start of 2019. Chris started to retreat a couple months after. And then this hit. If Calder had been excited about his new stake in an upcoming gaming brand, that probably made for some unhappy reading, followed by unhappy phone calls. And possibly more. The project is in terminal decay. It’s been that way for ages but unlike two years ago, you can really feel it bleeding through what little content they squeeze out these days. Chris and Sandi are multimillionaires, and Sandi seems free and clear now, but Chris is stuck being the face of this debacle until he’s forcibly removed or secures his own Freelancer exit. He’s probably very eager for the latter right now, knowing as he must that despite a quarter billion dollars and eight years, he just can’t make a game worthy of all the hype he’s presold. It’s a bore to follow most of the time, seeing that Chris is in hiding and Sandi is gone. Lando has the camera now, and sheepishly pops up to serve thin video gruel a couple times a week. (It’s mostly terrible, dull, and semi-apologetic...) Yet there’s still likely some dramedy ahead. Or that’s what we keep telling ourselves, anyway!

Was this some obviously untrue bit of Sandi intended to prove her gamer pedigree and legitimize her as the head of marketing for an alleged game alleged developer by pandering to an audience of gamers? Because if this really happened, that's how I'm imagining it going down.
