:frogsiren: Seekers complete :frogsiren:
I converted these guys out of Raven Guard Mor Deythan because I like the models and wanted some mkVI in army. It's one of my favorite designs and there's not much room for it in most legions, but I figured seekers would work just fine. Conversions were pretty simple; I had to trim off the various RG emblems, clip off the shoulder pads (they're built in), green stuff new mounting/inner pads, and shave the trim off of a bunch of mkIV pads to get the right look.

Painting-wise, the main thing I did here was add another, slightly lighter grey to my blends. I had previously done black and dark grey they weren't really noticeable to anyone but me. There are a lot of flat panels on these models and the lack of knee pads makes things a little weird. I tried to pick a direction for the light hitting each model so they're not all identical. This will be my new standard for painting black going forward. Other than that, I did my usual Dark Angels heraldry and played around with masking fluid for the cloaks. I've got a vigilator with the exact same cloak design waiting to be finished as well.

On to the models!

This unit was a long project and I was a huge dumbass and did them as a batch of ten alongside some characters I was basecoating. I was finishing them at LVO as a result, but still had a few more details and touch ups to do when I got home. I got a few games in with them though and I was pretty happy with how they performed. I am really happy to have these guys done and I'm already mulling over a couple of options for my next project. Speaking of which...

:frogsiren:Additional WIP:frogsiren:

This guy is meant to act as a tartaros delegatus/centurion/warmonger/whatever. He's converted out of the Blood Angels praetor with all of the decorations shaved off. I've still got some minor filing/smoothing to do, but nothing major. The combi-weapon will get magnetized between a couple of options which is why it's held on with sticky tack for now. My current plan is to put together a full terminator ZM list by LVO next year and they'll be led by this idiot. You can fit something like 20 in 1000 points and I need to see how that goes.

Yeah man. Like, fundamentally its cool they're putting this much energy into their scene with custom poo poo. It's just... the way their designer has gone about it seems like a decent into madness. Once you start giving specific armies special stuff and changing the way the core game works, its basically just a snowflake modded vision of the game. Do that if you like, but its really hard to balance and defend against favoritism. Not to mention an 80pg appendix will make it hard to track the many new rules and rules interactions.

One of the worst fan impulses is "we need to add more units" and thinking it will somehow come out better than what the designers managed to do. Crops up everywhere.

So this still isn’t Atramentar 1st company terminators? Just general new FW never before seen in fluff legion squad. Like they are cool as hell but I hope the 1st company boys appear and they have two wounds per terminator murder dude.

Hahaha, I didn't realize they had their own worse version of chainglaives. My brain had parsed it as if they were glaives and so I figured a whole unit of S5 rending terminators wouldn't be that bad. Knocking them to S4 kind of sucks. Does Talent for Murder at least improve rending rolls or is it like the BA bonus where it's worded specifically to avoid that?

Their legion is only good at killing defenseless serfs so I don't see a numbers problem with the chainblade.

Ranged AP4/5 weapons and melee AP3 to hunt down power armour units and leaders in Artificer or Terminator armour.

Very fitting for a bunch of deluded aristocrats.

Chainglaives have the same profile, but are +1S and two handed. Terminators don't get pistols, so they can never get an extra attack. So, did they intentionally create a new weapon profile for this unit that can't benefit from it and is worse than a chainglaive? Are the supposed to be chainblades and not chainglaives?

Its a mystery!

It's not like chainglaives were even good compared to power glaives and legatine axes.

Canonically night lords always get completely owned in combat and run away to brood in their spaceships so this is just FW trying to be fluff accurate.

The DA Inner Circle knights dropped today out of nowhere. I really wasn't expecting these guys until the book dropped. The models are gorgeous though and I need them.
https://www.forgeworld.co.uk/en-US/Dark-Angels-Legion-Inner-Circle-Knights-2020

They even got a rules pdf: https://www.forgeworld.co.uk/resources/PDF/AoS_Warscrolls//Inner_Circle_Knights_Cenobium.pdf

They're... um... interesting.
The Good
  • WS5 base with a WS6 W2 leader
  • Ld10 Stubborn and Adamantium Will
  • Terranic greatswords as standard with the option to switch to thunder hammers for free. Solves the AP issues pretty handily.
  • Plasma casters are pretty cool. 12" range with S4 AP2 Assault 2. They ignore cover and re-roll hit rolls when used in overwatch.

The Bad
  • 275 base for a unit mostly made up of W1 models. 45 each after the first five. This is Varagyr territory.
  • Their guns have a special rule about overwatch, but cataphractii armor doesn't let its wearers fire overwatch at all
  • A lot of the order bonuses are pretty marginal. I was hoping they'd be more impactful than slightly better counter attack or rolling an extra Deny the Witch die.

FW delivered on everything I expected and then some. I love this unit so much. :allears: It's this weird mix of mild bonuses and awful downsides that really captures the essence of playing Dark Angels. We even got a useless rule! It's so good.

Seriously though, just make these guys W2 and I am 100% happy with them. Even if their guns' rule still doesn't work.

Still better than phoenix terminators

Well the guns can overwatch but the armor can’t. These sort of beautiful nuances are really what make the DA special.

It says "failed To Hit rolls may be re-rolled" yet they always fail because they can't overwatch :thunk:

What does this mean?

It means, should an enemy unit charge you, continue re-rolling overwatch dice until your opponent concedes
